Actually the correct response would be to ignore it and move on. Calling more attention to something to find jarring to your game immersion just cause it to be more jarring and prolongs the time you are being jarred out of the game experience. Cock your eyebrow in distaste, shame them, thump if you really want to, but the "what is XXXXXX?" is far more disruptive than the initial utterance/gwething.

According to news 2 19:

THUMP is not limited for use "only" in dealing with OOC or disruptive behavior. If someone wants to THUMP someone and they have the ability to do so, for whatever reason (Attacking them, stealing from them, kicking them, looking at them funny, etc.), then they're perfectly within their right to do so. Period.

THUMP is considered an RP tool and can be used as a "peaceful" alternative to simply lopping off someone's head because that was your only recourse.

He was OOC and admitted it in his initial post. ^He said as a player he was referring to a RL song. Isn't that the definition of OOC or maybe I am misunderstanding.

I understand that the thumper can't read minds so had no way of knowing he was deliberately being OOC in the context so he assumed he was, but pretty sure it is safe to assume he was.

I'm just not entirely sure when you've become the person who determines how someone has to respond in order for it to be IC.

I'm also not sure why someone thumping people for singing sometimes might make them OOC, as opposed to, say, inconsistant and/or hypocritical. Being inconsistant and/or hypocritical is an entirely IC thing.
