Yes.

Looks like we disagree.

Also, your attitude is pretty poor, and you calling out others for responding in kind is a very pot/kettle situation.

Yeah, I've seen it / experienced it too.

But - I like the fact that we, as players, can choose to portray our characters as 'enlightened' in this regard or not, and work it into aspects of our characters.

I remember a dwarf cleric a long time ago named Warchug who used to charge crazy high fees for his raising to those of Elven blood.

Okay, name me half a dozen RP interactions you witnessed where you saw someone being royally ripped off for being a dark elf that couldn't have also been accomplished with a much lesser penalty or just responding to the merchant's usual colorful language they have for dark elves?

If it doesn't affect you, then the RP is meaningless. Your character lives in a world, not a game. Things are not always going to be fair here, and in fact, they shouldn't be. If I felt like everything was perfectly balanced, the verisimilitude would be broken.

As for naming: every NPC interaction I've ever had with my Sorcerer. With a lesser penalty, the reality of being a Dark Elf in a city where everyone pretty much despises you as a default, and all the history that comes along with that would never be realized. So no, colorful language, and insignificant differences don't interest me.

Good point. I think the penalty should be increased to 80% then.

Sure. In fact, some NPC merchants should flat-out refuse to deal with Dark Elves. Others should behave similarly if their historical animosity towards another race has it make sense.

I guess there's always the third option to either getting rid of racial penalties or leaving them exactly as is: adventurer's guild items or Simucoin items that temporarily negate them. That's how a lot of other things that tend to divide the mechanical-oriented player and RP-oriented player are addressed.

In fact, there should be a chance that whenever a Dark Elf enters a shop the shopkeeper will call a bunch of goons who will beat up the Dark Elf, leaving them with rank 2 wounds about the head and neck, and rob them of all of their possessions. Think of the RP possibilities!

>adventurer's guild items or Simucoin items that temporarily negate them.

I don't know about items but the Adventurer's guild in general sounds like a good idea.

Gem shop owner says you have completed 100 bounties for me? I like you a bit more now!

Negates 1% racial penalty until you work off your racial penalty.

Same for furrier.

Pawnshop can be like rescuing kids and stuff.

See now THAT would add some RP to the game and allow disadvantaged races help negate their racial penalty. Everyone wins.
