Similar yes. They actually will hold most crystal (blue, white, black, alchemy made). The drawback is when you put a crystal into the holder it requires you to have the appropriate MIU for the spell in order to activate the crystal. For white crystals this may result in a longer strength duration based on your training but for blue crystals and black crystals its mostly a downside since duration is fixed for both of those spells.
