The spellbook sheet for healing reagents sorely needs to be updated. It doesn't include any of the new herbs. It would be nice to have this new information as well as an alchemy insert for procedures to make herbs and tinctures and whatnot

Spellbook entries are handled by the core magic system. If a spell description needs updating post in your guild forum.
As for the inserts, those are largely standalone, and it's a matter of someone finding the time to update it.

Question on the spellbook merchant wares
02/20/2007 07:52 PM CST
Are there spellbooks that you can't study from? I bought a few not knowing this. I don't recall a sign there stating that. Of course I could have missed it in all the holaballoo.
They are as follows:
a well-worn leather spellbook covered with wine stains
a burnished mahogany-bound spellbook engraved with a queasy-looking gerbil
a night black satin-bound spellbook embroidered in silver with the Moon Mage Guild crest
a verdant green maple-bound spellbook engraved with an outstretched hand cradling a wreath of herbs
a splotchy ghoul hide spellbook beaded with twisted green fingernails
I might have more, but wanted to know if these are just for rp purposes or were we supposed to be able to study from them.
Regards,

The cheaper, non custom spellbooks are for RP only. There was a sign I believe in the main room of the store explaining something along those lines. Any of the Custom spell books, where you had to go into an individual guild room to purchase, have pages for each spell of that guild and can teach scholarship when read.

Recent spellbook merchant appearances:
At the tail end of the Shard (Liberation?) Fest
During the Merelew II Pay Fest
In the Premium Sea Caves for a short time (arond Christmas, I think?)
Thse are all fairly recent, so there should be good hope that it will continue to make appearances now and again.

Your chance of getting a functionality alteration to your spellbook case is... not technically zero, but a number very close to the mark.
Alterations are almost always cosmetic, and when functional tend to be highly specific on extremely simple items.

Question about wearable spellbooks
05/25/2010 01:55 AM CDT
Sorry if this is asked elsewhere and I just didn't see, but how do the hip/shoulder chains work? I was hoping to be able to wear the spellbook while it was in the case, but when I tried attaching, it said attach to the spellbook, so can it only be attached to the book itself? Secondly, I have no bloody idea what syntax to use to even connect it to the book. Attach book to chain and vice versa does nothing, and when I try to wear it, it says I can't until the spellbook's attached. Ugh!
If you can't connect the chain to the case, that would be pretty sad, but I guess it's a case of something that's too good to be true and I should have seen it coming. sigh

Maybe put chain on spellbook? But I have to echo the concern of such a wonderful, personal item being exposed to weather damage... Unless this is the intent, of course. Then carry on.
Personally, I'd love my spellbook case even if I didn't have a spellbook. The misc compartment holds 30 items, not sure about the others. Having a specific place for my scrolls, runes, wands, cambrinth really appeals to the inner OCD in me. I have a wonderful little script that charges all 30 of my cambrinth in the misc. compartment, fantastic way to train AND have plenty of mana stored for spelling up for hunting.

probably PUT chain on Spellbook like the beads and stuff, and GET chain from Spellbook to get it off.
Maybe they wanna show it off like Tachid? or you don't really care about the books condition to begin with? could buy a second cheap one, or one of the fluff books too
Spellbooks should go in the case, and the chain attaches to you, not the case. I'm not even sure if you can put it in a case while the chain/harness is attached to your book. (since it works like a case of sorts)
Anyone know if you can carry a chained book in your pack without damage, or just when it's properly encased?
And for those that don't know, carrying your book in a pack, as you move from room to room, the contents of your pack shuffle and damage the book(if it's not in a case). You should be able to keep it in a vault, on a trader table, or on a table or something in your home(provided it's not beaded or anything- each counts as an item) without damaging it.

heh, ok so I bought one to test it:
can place either the harness or chain on the book (just 1)
I don't think it's neccessarily meant for everyday walking around use.
BUT it is rather convenient to be able to pull out your spellbook and wear it AND still be able to use it- leaving the hands free and not having to worry about dropping it. (I haven't tried scribing scrolls to it while worn yet, and you need to hold it to Write in it, not that writing notes on the spell pages or writing pad even works)
I believe it's more a temporary option, so you can show it off or use, then just shove it back in your case when you're done or if the weather's bad
>write testing
You scratch on the page of your sharkskin-bound spellbook with the stylus, but the ink fades away.
[This feature is not yet implemented. Patience, it will be!]
Any word on if this feature will ever be implemented? Or at least make it visible to others so we can use it as a fluff verb or something.

Honestly, the sad reality is that the writing pads will very likely never become actual writing pads. There are too many enforcement issues, and of course there are also other technical concerns.
I can look into making the writing pads a lot fluffier, but to do it right it has to go onto the long list.

Okay I just want to complain about how much time I spent scribing scrolls into spellbooks last night.
No not really- just love reducing my inventory count and being able to organize my scrolls. I think I scribed some scrolls I might have otherwise saved to possibly sell to others but I kind of got caught up in my frenzy to get all my scrolls out of the stupid boxes and into the spellbooks.
Oh and the titles selection for the spellbooks was just great. All and all an A+ in my opinion.

Honestly, this was my main motivation for this. I was playing my PC and I was wondering what scrolls I had, and I realized that it would be perfect to had that in your spellbook.
There are some more things I want to do with the scrolls leaf. Some brainstorming (just ideas, not even a shred of promising these as features):
* scribing scrolls back out of the spellbook onto scroll paper (needs Enchanting rewrite first)
* High arcana leaving the scroll in the spellbook after use
* erasing a spell from the spellbook entirely
* Dealing with multiple scrolls of the same type in a compelling way

Just so I am clear, is it confirmed that it is intended that even after using a page, you can reuse the page again (Not the spell itself).
So if you filled all 50 pages, then invoked 3. You would have 3 spots to scribe to again.

Agreed - this would be neat, but pretty difficult with the way this thing is set up. However, I have some ideas that will let you scribe multiple uses of the same spell onto the same page.
