Tribrid sorcery concept 01/17/2021 09:15 AM CST

Once upon a time there was a serious goal to fully develop the three MAJOR magical polarities (Elemental, Spiritual, and Mental) with Wizard, Cleric, and Savant classes as pures, and to then work in the hybrid classes that would bridge two of the MINOR polarities. Empaths would shift to MINOR spirit AND mental, and many of our brainstormed spell and guild skill concepts were shelved because they seemed to better align with what was envisioned for Savants. Sorcery development then was full of eagerness to finally differentiate Necromancy from Demonology, with all specialist pathways viable. The role of lores was key to pathway choice.

Unless something has changed again, Savants are no longer intended to be developed, making that entire balance concept of the classes moot and giving sorcery the opportunity to evolve in that direction.

A novel differentiator for sorcery would be to incorporate the MENTAL lores into some of our spells too. There could then be a new Ascension ability to actually learn to cast additional spells from the Major or Minor circles that you have at least 100 ranks in, with 1x/day for each 50 ranks.

Once upon a time, it was suggested to give Sorcerers access to Minor Mental, so that their spell lists would be Minor Mental, Minor Elemental, Minor Spiritual, and Sorc Base. yes, this would give sorcs 4 spell lists when everyone else had 3.

But 3 of the lists being Minor lists would make up for this, as there is significantly more power in the Major lists than there is in the Minor lists.

I still think it's a good idea, but I don't see it ever happening.

Be some serious decision-making on where to split those 303 spells, too.
