Archery attack strength 09/02/2021 03:54 AM CDT

I noticed there were lots of folks with a attack strength of 500+ with their bows and I just wondered how they were producing this?
My rogues were only able to make 480 self spelled due to spell burst, my OHE AS is a bit less at 460.
But my question is for ranged please.

I have spells self learned to 107 and 414. I’m guessing I need 425?

Or do you just not hunt spellburst areas because I’ve no idea where that might be :)

One thing that can be easy to over-look is that both Perception and Ambush factor into ranged AS.... so if you slacked off on one or both of them cause you had enough for other things, it'll be affecting your AS.

Also, don't forget society abilities, if you're not using signs/symbols/sigils when you hunt, you're missing out on 25-35 AS.

Great advice thank you.
I’ve got 100 dex stat, maxed perception, ambush and ranged. I use voln symbols and have to stick to a 5x vanilla weapon. I’ve got some heavily sighted 7x weapons but worry they’d be disarmed.
I also have disarm maxed out btw. But I’m paranoid heh.
Oh I learned weapon specialisation while bow in hand.
That’s all I can think off off top of my head.
I suppose there’s lots of outside spells and high enchant gear happening with other hunters

If you're in an area where disarming is possible, it's always good to have a back-up weapon or two unless you're UCS. There isn't any chance of permanently losing your weapon if it's disarmed though. If you can't safely search it out (or somehow lose track of what room you were disarmed in), just go to the local Adventurer's Guild and pay to have it recovered for you.

It wouldn't surprise me if most of the rogues you see in capped hunting grounds have high enchant gear, but there really aren't that many spells that add to ranged AS... certainly not ones that are easy to come by if you can't cast them yourself.

I'm pretty sure 211, 215, 307, 425, 1007, 1130, and 1606 are the only spells that will add to ranged AS for more then 1 or 2 attacks. Of those, a rogue will only be able to self cast 425, though if they're in a group with a bard and/or a cleric they could have 1007 and/or 307 as well... some of the others can be found on scrolls, but in most capped hunting areas you won't see rogues using them unless they're lucky enough to have a self knowledge item(s) with them (due to spell burst and similar mechanics).

In addition to outside spells: Enhancives (particularly dex and ranged). That alone could be worth 70 AS.

I'm not sure with the recent ranged changes but it used to be that a ranged user with an arrow readied would have the arrow disarmed first. And the changes to Disarm item loss prevention make it very hard (not impossible, but very hard) to lose a weapon to disarm these days.

I'd suggest you try it. Carry two bows, always have an arrow nocked. And if you get disarmed, grab your spare, slay the creature, then recover your disarmed bow.

One other thing I thought of is they could be training in a secondary weapon type. When the PSM changes were made, Martial Mastery was introduced, which adds +1 AS for every 8 ranks trained in a secondary and/or tertiary weapon skill. That bonus is reduced if you learn spells and is lost entirely if you know 25 or more spells, though.

Prolly a decently far post-cap goal for most rogues (esp if they lockpick at all) and prolly not worth pursuing as a rogue unless you have other reasons for learning a second weapon type (esp if you know more then a couple spells).... but it is a possibility.
