The only pre-release critique I have is that I think the pre-reqs for the Druid title are a little steep.

The animal companion changes are definitely going in the right direction. I would love my companion to become more than a passive DS boost.
On test, I did observe that the first attack and guard requests occur immediately. It seemed like the companion must be out of combat for a long time (30 - 60 seconds? not entirely sure) before the next immediate attack can occur. The general control also feels a bit slow and clunky still. I see my companion can make an attack about once every 10 seconds. However, if I want to switch my companion from attacking to guarding during combat, that takes an unexpectedly long time - almost as if the companion loses an action just to queue up the next action.
I also noticed a few things, perhaps because I've barely used my companion...
- 'tell comp cease' gives hard RT for the ranger, perhaps remove the RT?
- 'gaze comp' gives hard RT as well, seems unnecessary?
- once after a 'tell comp cease', I think I received a message indicating some sort of failed skill check, maybe that's normal though?
Allow me to now be a bit greedy and request more for animal companions:
Can we speed them up to something like an 8s RT to match the new 610?
I want the option to micro-manage every companion action so that I can control attack times and use them as openers. To accomplish this, I'll propose that, any time the companion takes no action, the companion returns to a state where the next action is immediate. This would enable something like the following:
- 'tell comp att' creates an immediate opening attack
- companion is now in hard RT
- 'tell comp cease' during companion RT prevents companion from taking next action
- companion RT expires
- companion is now idle and ready for another immediate attack upon command
Not sure if you can do it, but that would be sweet.
Consider this all constructive criticism. I'm still very excited for all these changes to be rolled out.

Milax published a Town Square Central podcast yesterday (recorded last Fri) with GM Mestys, Raust from Plat, and me talking about the ranger spell changes that are live on test. Here's the info:
Milax:
Episode 27 of Town Square Central, "The Times, They Are a-Chrangerin'," featuring a panel discussion with @Mestys, @Nuadjha, and @Joskin, Sarmoya, et al. about the forthcoming ranger update.
It should be live on whatever podcast platform you use, and it'll be up on my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAi..._as=subscriber) and website (http://townsquarecentral.com/).
Enjoy, and let me know what you think. I learned a lot from this one, and the update sounds really awesome.
Huge kudos to Milax for his work on community engagement.

You inhale deeply upon your pipe, puckering your lips as you send out three rings of smoke before you, then puff out a small vine of smoke that darts right through all three which causes them to disperse in a hazy shroud!
