White crystals and 918 06/07/2017 03:43 PM CDT
Avidly devouring everything I can on the wiki and came across a disparity -

The wiki page for white crystal says it can be duplicated via 918 when fresh. However, the wiki page for 918 says "black crystals, white crystals, and solid moonstone cubes cannot be duplicated."

As having never played a wizard, what's the real answer? I'll submit a change after your answers.

>get white cry
You pick up a white crystal.
>prep duplicate
You trace a series of glowing runes while chanting the phrase for Duplicate...
Your spell is ready.
>cast on my cry
You gesture at a white crystal.
The crystal is suddenly surrounded by a bright aura which seems to be consuming it! Then, at the moment the light is about ready to brighten, the aura fizzles out.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)
>prep 405
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast on my cry
You gesture at a white crystal.
You sense that the crystal is a magic item that holds the spell "Strength" with a single charge and it is not well suited for duplicating.
You detect that a white crystal can be recharged to its original capacity.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

This is correct.

I wonder. Robert - Was that an alchemical white crystal? With 4 charges? Or at least, I think the alchemical ones have 4 charges.

Do they?

I believe they can be charged on Melgorehn's Reach too, but not 100% on that. Could be something like that if so though.

Aren't white crystals one of the login rewards too? I can't remember if it's blue or white and I can't check right now.

It was a critter found white crystal. Not able to be duplicated.

For the record, white, blue, and black are all login rewards from the crystal boost.

And for the record - bound white and bound blue crystals cannot be duplicated (hold two charges).

Our tale, so far:

Crystal Critter Bound Alchemical Charge Item
White No No ?? No
Black No ?? ?? No
Blue Yes No ?? Yes

Critter = critter treasure
Bound = Login Rewards
Alchemical = Yes, alchemical
Charge Item = Can be charged with Charge Item (517)
No = cannot be duplicated with Duplicate (918)
Yes = can be duplicated with Duplicate (918)

And to add to that:

>cast crystal
You gesture at a bound black crystal.
You sense that the crystal is a magic item that holds the spell "Floating Disk" with a couple of charges and it is not well suited for duplicating.

Hmm. . . might have to go pester a cleric / empath for an alchemical blue crystal, too.

If no one posts before then I'll make them Saturday morning. I think my cleric has enough skill to make the blue crystal as well.

Alchemy White Crystal

You reach into the cauldron and take out a white crystal.
>prep 405
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast on my white cry
You gesture at a white crystal.
You sense that the crystal is a magic item that holds the spell "Strength" with a few charges and it is not well suited for duplicating.
You detect that a white crystal can be recharged to its original capacity.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)

Alchemy Black Crystal

You reach into the cauldron and take out a black crystal.
>prep 405
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Elemental Detection spell...
Your spell is ready.
>cast on my cry
You gesture at a black crystal.
You sense that the crystal is a magic item that holds the spell "Floating Disk" with a few charges and it is not well suited for duplicating.
You detect that a black crystal can be recharged to its original capacity.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

The charge item test

It appears that the "can be recharged" messaging pertains to merchants - even if I use a charge the item still cannot be recharged to it's original capacity. I find the 405 messaging misleading at best - maybe we can do a better job of differentiating between merchant recharging and charge item limitations within the 405 spell?

>get white cry from have
>You remove a white crystal from in your voluminous haversack.
Tracking white crystal, (509) Strength, currently with +0.0 charges, 9mp to add a charge.
>rub puls orb
You gesture over the pulsating orb while holding a white crystal near it.
A strand of pure essence leaps from the orb and onto the crystal!
Nothing else seems to happen.
>
Item may not be chargeable?

>put cry in my have
You put a white crystal in your voluminous haversack.
>get black cry
You remove a black crystal from in your voluminous haversack.
Tracking black crystal, (511) Floating Disk, currently with +0.0 charges, 11mp to add a charge.
>rub puls orb
You gesture over the pulsating orb while holding a black crystal near it.
A strand of pure essence leaps from the orb and onto the crystal!
Nothing else seems to happen.
>
Item may not be chargeable?
>put cry in my have
You put a black crystal in your voluminous haversack.

>get white cry
You remove a white crystal from in your voluminous haversack.
>rub my cry
You rub the white crystal in your hand.
You feel much stronger.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>[ Strength: +1:51:00, 4:10:00 remaining. ]
>rub puls orb
You gesture over the pulsating orb while holding a white crystal near it.
A strand of pure essence leaps from the orb and onto the crystal!
Nothing else seems to happen.
>

Item may not be chargeable?

>> Same result for the black crystal.

Additional note: I actually tried casting duplicate item on both crystals as well with no positive result.

Yep, agreed. Very much could use a better 405 results messaging.
