<<Heh. Sort of yes, but in my opinion, a red herring to the point. Happy to discuss why, if there's a need. In the end, I ask the question -- yet again -- should we allow for freely swapping between professions? What I'm trying to discern is when are 'innate' or 'character defining' positions immutable, and when not?
Doug>>
Uh oh, you're losing logic points, Doug! How about once attunement becomes a critical element of our character from a mechanical standpoint, we make it an immutable choice? As it stands, changing your attunement is about as important as what color pants you chose to wear today. I changed mine when I got home from work! I think next I'll change my attunement. You know what the difference is? You can tell that I changed my pants! Ha!
See? I get to play, too! ;)

It's ok, I'm working on finding logic in the request, myself. :)
I mean, if it isn't a critical element, then why is it so important? Logically speaking, anyway. :)
Setting aside my obtuse opinion on the matter for a moment, someone else posted a suggestion that triggered a thought. How about if attunement is what attunement is -- but with lore training in another element, you can choose to have that as your 'active' attunement.
So, you start the game, and you choose fire. You train in air lore to some unspecified goal and you get the benefit of focusing on your training to override your 'natural inclination'. And if you should train in air lore and earth lore both to some unspecified goal, you can get the benefit of focusing on your training in either one to override your 'natural inclination'.
Keeps two important game design characteristics in line and active -- 1) there are core things about your character that 'are' when you define your character; and, 2) you have an opportunity to change or influence those core things through acquisition (treasure, bounty points, experience and training).

I wouldn't have a problem with doing it that way.

Sandy knocked out te Internet for some time. Yes, apparently attune random does change your element every cast. My bad.

I totally agree, why not do something like force us to prepare an expensive gem, charge it up to say 10,000 mana in order to release attunement.

Must be time for the annual debate. Consistent enough to set your calendar by!

I'm rather surprised it hasn't turned up in the Simucoin Store yet. If they'll reset companions--something that was never, ever supposed to be possible--I can't see why they won't do the same for attunement.

I think they should do profession and race before attunement.
So far, spells that are cast or beliefs that are held are convertible. Next up, what one learned. Then we can start working on what one was born with.

After the way you responded, you can't see why it hasn't happened?

I never realized I had such amazing power over the Simutronics Corporation. I must endeavor to use my powers for good, rather than evil.
But seriously, this isn't about my personal options about whether or not companion reset potions are a "good" or "bad" thing. The fact is, they exist. It stands to reason if Simu decides one is fine, they might hold a similar view of the other.

This whole argument is mind numbing every time it comes up.
