A question about future WPS services 08/29/2017 05:14 AM CDT
I am currently digesting the prices at duskruin and wondering something. When general merchants offer this service, is it going to be adding a number of points or adding one point? The price is steep enough, if I need to spend an hour tracking down a merchant for each of the 100 points before I see a combat change it is going to make me reconsider my approach.

Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain,
And the stream that falls from the hill to plain.
Better than rain or rippling brook,
Is a mug of beer inside this Took.

"is it going to be adding a number of points or adding one point?" -- Menos

At any given transaction, you are going to get <some number of points>, B(ought).
For any given effect to kick in, you need <some number of points>, T(ier).
Points, in groups of five (5), all have the same S(urcharge), which may be 0 (for the first points bought in a time F[rame] of 60 days).

You may buy as many points as THAT PARTICULAR MERCHANT allows, as a L(imit). At Duskruin, this run, that happens to be 25. Other merchants could choose lower (10 or 15), or higher (50? 60? Who knows what some bank accounts will bear!) as they choose.

.

So there you are at some merchant event. You pull out your item, and approach the <automated clerk? merchant with your ticket? merchant with your raffle win?>...
- Because you have had no work done in the recent past (last 60 days), the first points you buy will start your F(rame). You now have a 60 day clock running.
- You Buy Points. Congrats! You now have some points, B(ought), to apply to your item. They go on the item. Let's look at your item: have you crossed a 'New' level according to Zissu's chart? If 'no', you need more points; go buy more points, below. If 'yes', you have no crossed a T(ier) and have an additional point of padding/weighting/sighting, as appropriate to your item.
- The first five (5) points you buy in a time F(rame) all have the same S(urcharge), +0. The next five (5) points you buy in a time F(rame) all have the same S(urcharge), +<something>. The next five (5) points you buy in a time F(rame) all have the same S(urcharge), +<something more>. Consider this like the inverse of the skill rank progression, where instead of starting at 5 and counting down, you start at 0 (S(urcharge)) and count up.
- At the NEXT merchant to roll around, if it has been less than 60 days, you are STILL WITHIN the same time F(rame), so the "# of ranks you have purchased recently" is the same, at this new event, as if you were buying more points at that previous event. S(urcharge) will continue to increase.

.

So at Duskruin, you take your weapon and you got an invite. You go to the smithy.
- If you buy only 5 points, a) you start your time F(rame), and all of your points are at-cost, with no S(urcharge). However, you do not make a T(ier) on your item.
- If you buy 10 points, a) you start your time F(rame), the first bloc of 5 are at-cost with no S(urcharge), and the next 5 are at cost+S(urcharge1).
...
- If you buy the max 25 points allowed (at this event), a) you still start your time F(rame), and you pay: 5 at cost with no S(urcharge), 5 at cost+S(urcharge1), 5 at cost+S(urcharge2), 5 at cost+S(urcharge3), 5 at cost+S(urcharge4)... ALL OF WHICH TOGETHER, will--according to Zissu's chart--cost you LESS THAN the final bloc of 5 at cost+S(urcharge5).

Now you apply these B(ought) services to your item.
- If your item started at 0/plain-Jane, and you bought 5 (minimal cost), you don't make a T(ier), but you're halfway there for the next time around. Congrats on being Thrifty!
...
- If your item started at 0/plain-Jane, and you bought the 25 limit, you have made not just one but TWO T(iers)--so you now have 2 points of Padding/Weighting/Sighting, depending on your item--and are halfway to the next point.
- If your item started at 10/'Heavy' (maybe from Premium Point work), you have gone from 150 'New' +25 B(ought services) to arrive at 175 'New'... but 11 points of requires 180 'New' cost, so you are 5 B(ought services) away from making it. IF YOU GET those next 5 B(ought services) WITHIN THIS SAME 60-day time F(rame), you will pay cost+S(urcharge6), which will probably be silly high.
- If your item started at 45/'Incredibly', and you apply all 25 B(ought services), you are now at 3525 'New' on Zissu's chart. Unfortunately, you need to be at 4000 to go to the next T(ier) 46/'Incredibly', so you only need 475 B(ought services) more to get there....
