No idea. How do quoits work? I will throw it at something and try to find out.

What verb is needed? Throw?

HURL <critter>... and yes, you do have to specify which critter you're hurling at

Thanks for the hurling lesson boys!

Not a 'returner'

[Lower Dragonsclaw, Forest]
Your ears are becoming more attuned to the sounds of the forest surrounding you. Over your footsteps you hear the sounds of small birds overhead, comfortably nested in the sturdy oak trees. You also see a velnalin and a rolton.
Obvious paths: northeast, south
>stance off
You are now in an offensive stance.
>hurl rolt
You are unable to find an opening for your right-handed throw.
Roundtime: 1 sec.
>
A rolton tries to bite you!
You evade the attack with incredible finesse!
>Wear my shield
You sling a deep red hexagonal shield with a centered onyx pentacle over your shoulder.
>hurl rolt
With a quick flick of your wrist, you deftly send a mithglin quoit into flight.
You throw a mithglin quoit at a rolton!
AS: +123 vs DS: -5 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +61 = +229
... and hit for 44 points of damage!
Strong slash to throat nicks a few blood vessels.
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
Lacking the force and angle to lodge in a rolton, the mithglin quoit simply falls.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

A velnalin trots south.
>
Geros just arrived.
>
A young half-elven child arrives, following Geros.

Geros just went northeast.

AS: +123 vs DS: +4 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +2 = +161
... and hit for 18 points of damage!
Weak slash to the velnalin's lower back!
Bad angle. The mithglin quoit fails to stick in a velnalin.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>
A velnalin stomps at you with its foot!
You gracefully avoid the attack!
>take quo
You pick up a mithglin quoit.
>hurl vel

AS: +123 vs DS: +1 with AvD: +40 + d100 roll: +70 = +232
... and hit for 43 points of damage!
Powerful slash just cracks the velnalin's weapon arm!
The velnalin collapses to the ground, emits a final sigh, and dies.
The mithglin quoit ricochets away from a velnalin, landing nearby.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>take quo
...wait 1 seconds.
>
take quo

The quoit is out of your reach.
