So, I finally decided to give Doctor Who a try (thank you Netflix). I'm enjoying the show greatly. I'm nearly caught up entirely with the second Matt Smith season(just 7 more episodes to go), and I've seen everything contemporary starting with Eccleston.

What I'm wondering is if there's anything worth going further back in time for?

Anything relevant to the more contemporary stuff that would give a better understanding?

Anything that gives greater details about the Timelords and Gallifrey?

Anything with more background on The Master?

If anyone has any advice or episode sugguestions, please list them for me, and try to include the actor who portrayed the Doctor and even episode titles if possible.
