Newly Returned 07/13/2012 08:41 PM CDT
I've returned to the lands after a very long vacation and now currently on day 4 of trying to figure out where to put the pointy end of the weapon. Still trying to figure out stormfront but I like it well enough that I think I'm going to stick with it instead of the Wizard FE. But there is so much to reabsorb as well as learning the SF interface.

Instead of jumping in whole hog I've made a new toon. Soomblat a very naive young Giantman. My main is a lvl 26
halfling rogue by the name of Littlefinger. Back in the day I was working on I guess you would call a mostly pure ambushing hunter. So being very skittish I'm keeping him under wraps until I feel more comfortable with the game. I can't find any of his old chats that I had from back in the old GS3 days. I had his whole training mapped out but there has been changes made so I don't know how this has and will affect him. I've posted below with some questions on things I'm a bit hazy on and hope for suggestions. So far I'm happy with the return even if all I'm really doing seems to be staring from square one.

Questions
On STATS
1. Stats, I don't remember INFLUENCE or how important it is to an ambushing rogue.
2. Stats, Fast and agile was the name of the game with Littlefinger sort of placed everything around that
I think I have the ability to change stats around but not even sure if I should or need to.

On SKILLS
3. Armor Use: At the time I was only aiming to use Full Hauberk. and have read some on rogues that seem that most
suggest metal breast plate or even full plate. But being a small fry built mainly for speed I am unsure.
4. Survival and First Aid. At the time this was more than enough for me to handle the cold of Icemuel and beyond
and skin anything I was able to take down. More of a Mountain Halfing dealing in the fur trade to make ends
meet. My bread and butter and adds to the role play of Littlefinger
5. Pickpocketing: was told by another rogue hunter that you are not a pure hunter if times get lean and the pelts
don't drop there are other ways to get coin for a meal and a warm room for the night. More for the R.P.
element than any other reason.
6. Disarm Traps and Picking Locks: Just a hobby and helps put butter on the tarts when hunting is lean.
7. Harness Power: I think it was called something else back in my day. Us it to send and receive mana?
8. Brawling: 7 was all you needed for VolnFu should I have decided to go that route
ON GENERAL
9. Any hints, tips, suggested reading material, or I dunn'ow something I could have missed would be greatly
appreciated.

Sincerely;
Me, A.k.A. Littlefinger

Influence has changed, from being important to keep low because there were some penalties for high INF, to having a few positive uses. e.g. it provides a bonus to the divert cman. Its still the most tankable stat though.

You have 30 days from the first time you logged in from GS3 during which you can change your stats 5 times. I'd definitely shave that AGI and DEX to some extent. I don't think there's any point in having them above 90 at your level. I might shave the STR too. You want them all high, but they don't have to be quite that high at level 26 and you will lose out on a lot of stat growth later.

The only point to hauberk rather than MBP is if you have nice accessories. It can be worth staying in chain if it means you get to use some nice greaves etc. that you don't have the training to put on over plate. However, there are advantages in not going that high in the first place, if you are a sneaky or a magical rogue.

To get good results from skinning you should aim to have 2x between FA and survival and at least 40 ranks in each. Your high DEX is helping you out at the moment, but as you level and your training falls behind and DEX hits 100, you will get eventually get worse rather than better at skinning.

That amount of PP is fine for RP purposes.

You can shave that smith training as you level. 50 ranks lock picking is good to get (because you need it to get full benefit from vaalin) but you don't need to keep at 2x past that point for hobby purposes. 2x plus lore is the standard that gets almost all your own boxes and you don't actually need to go past 50 ranks until you are well past level 25. You can be picking some level 70 critters with just 50 ranks, though you'll break a lot of picks if you try to pick every critter.

Voln fu is about to die. If you want to use the replacement unarmed combat system (the release event is running at the moment) you should train brawl at 2x (and dump edged, just have your halfling tear critters limb from limb with his bare hands). I reckon my hafling rogue is more effective with the new unarmed combat system than with a weapon. Its impossible to be sure because its still being tweaked, but it would have to be tweaked down a long way to make me change my mind. My weapon is about to join my shield in my locker.

I'd tend to drop shield and go for 3x dodge. Even if you don't get enough points to fully 3x it from dropping shield, your high AGI more than makes up for it. Shields give a pretty hefty penalty to dodge so you really don't gain much extra defense from it even with that level of shield use training. Also being encumbered is bad, and if you don't have a shield its that much less weight.

Missed one of your questions

Harness power gets you mana (3 per rank up to level). You need and the target need the same type of mana control to send it. 4 ranks is more than enough to power 401, though you will need a bit more for society powers if not in Voln. I don't think you need more than 20 mana for spells until you get ewave. I am not sure how much other societies need to power them, I only have pures in them and their mana costs are trivial for a pure.

The links are very helpful and thanks for linking them.

Going full brawl with Littlefinger intrigues me. Would be a nice fit for him. What about two weapon combat would it help, hinder, or not necessary?

TWC is pointless with the new system for unarmed combat. Its based off using both hands for a single attack. You definitely want to be high dodge and no shield if you do go that way. TWC with edged still works fine.
