Nobody in their right mind keeps on foraging with all this in the room. It doesn't bear on the RT lock, which is a critical issue in OTF, but this is particular example seems a little bit contrived.

Sure they do. If you've got brawling, spells, and MOC, then you can handle piles of things in the room with you when you forage. I do it all the time too, kneeling, even without spells. I only stop to fight them off if I'm unspelled and a seer is around or I see a crystal weapon get swung.

Was also curious why champions swinging a maul are swinging at a 660 ish DS and griffins and janissary were at 795 ish DS. Seemed odd also.

Yup. Empty hand is a brawling weapon so you get brawling parry DS. Chokecherries are not a brawling weapon, and penalize your parry DS.
