Mana Cost of Spell 416 08/04/2017 07:23 AM CDT
I recently noticed that the mana cost for using Piercing Gaze (416) depends on whether or not the water lore benefit activates, as shown in the table below.

OutcomeMana
Normal16
Detect Trap Only16
Detect Chance of Magically Disarming Trap1
Detect Chance of Magically Unlocking0
Detect Both Chances1

Anybody want to test it and confirm?

I'll give it a run. A quick alias I run for this.
;e s_mana = checkmana; b_type = checkright; put 'prep 416'; put "cast at my #{b_type}" ; pause 1; e_mana = checkmana; echo ("Mana spent: #{s_mana-e_mana}")

First, a box with no trap.

Results of normal (no detect) cast
--- Lich: exec2 active.
[exec2]>prep 416
[exec2]>cast at my chest
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Piercing Gaze spell...
Your spell is ready.
>You gesture at an iron-bound maoral chest.
You gaze at the chest and see. . .
An iron-bound maoral chest which contains:
A copper fang (in)
A polished bloodwood wand (in)
Some silver coins (in)
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>
[exec2: Mana spent: 16]
--- Lich: exec2 has exited.

Results of detecting lock difficulty
--- Lich: exec2 active.
[exec2]>prep 416
[exec2]>cast at my chest
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Piercing Gaze spell...
Your spell is ready.
>

You gaze at the chest and see. . .
An iron-bound maoral chest which contains:
A copper fang (in)
A polished bloodwood wand (in)
Some silver coins (in)
You detect that you have a very poor chance of magically unlocking it.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

[exec2: Mana spent: 0]

Then, a box with a trap.

[exec2]>prep 416

You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Piercing Gaze spell...
Your spell is ready.

An iron-bound maoral chest which contains:
A copper fang (in)
A polished bloodwood wand (in)
Some silver coins (in)
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>
[exec2: Mana spent: 16]
--- Lich: exec2 has exited.

Results of detecting lock difficulty
--- Lich: exec2 active.
[exec2]>prep 416
[exec2]>cast at my chest
You gesture and invoke the powers of the elements for the Piercing Gaze spell...
Your spell is ready.
>You gesture at an acid-pitted gold chest.
You gaze at the chest and see. . .
An acid-pitted gold chest which contains:
Some silver coins (in)
Some wolifrew lichen (in)
A piece of cat's eye quartz (in)
Peering through the gold chest, you notice that the hinges have some springs incorporated into the design in an unusual fashion.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
>
[exec2: Mana spent: 16]
--- Lich: exec2 has exited.

Results of detecting both Trap and Lock
>

>
[exec2: Mana spent: 1]
--- Lich: exec2 has exited.

Huh - I thought this was already on the wiki, but I guess not. Nice!

That bug should now be resolved. Thanks for reporting it.
