Krag Dwellers 12/03/2015 11:24 PM CST
Some critters seem rather resistant to a number of attack modes, while being relatively open to others. Anyone know details about Krag Dwellers? Most creatures die when stabbed in the eye, but these guys just laugh it off. The are also resistant to many rogue maneuvers; cheapshots like eyepoke bounce off and they are almost impossible to subdue. On the other hand, I knock them down readily with sweep, and can put my fist through their skulls with one strike. Just curious if anyone has analyzed their various resistances. Log follows: they are tall so I have to whack them in the leg to get the head within reach.

Really? 21 damage and nothing else? A minotaur taking that shot is SO dead. Heh, I was so rattled I figured there was had to be some eye still remaining, so I attacked 2 more times aiming for the eye; naturally since the eye was in fact gone, the target defaulted to the chest. When I realized this, I switched to the neck, then the head. No luck there either. And before you tell me that a sai isn't a hard hitting weapon, it's as good as a dagger. Ambush is about placement accuracy, and that sai works fine vs things like minotaurs.

Just for contrast, here's a minotaur, similar level, found in the same area. Easily subdued, Cheapshots work fine and a shot to the eye is instantly fatal.

I'll have to test to see how puncture resistant these are, but at a first suspicion - poking something made of rock isn't usually the most straight-forward path to success, whether it's metal, or a finger.

Something that crushes should probably give a you much better result.

Try something with crush, like a blackjack, and see how it does against them.

Didn't Krag dwellers used to be slash resistant, not puncture resistant?

Using puncture weapons on all stone creatures, krag dwellers included, is just a matter of plinking away at them as opposed to attempting to crit them.

Dwellers to me always felt resistant to most everything when i had my ranger there. The best strategy I found was to use call swarm to knock down and just pick them apart slowly. For some odd reason they seem very easy to use swarm against. Besides that remember to skin them for their gems.

Dwellers are stone creatures?? Well, now I feel rather silly. Of course they are resistant then, just like stone mastiffs. Bah, I should have looked them up. I just wasn't expecting to find stone critters outside of stone valley area.

Just for informational purposes, I went back and tried ambushing them with my blackjack. No good; they just don't crit at all. No problem, since my fist just crashes through their thick skulls.

Yes, this is a part of their specific design - they are very crit-resistant, as well. I meant to suggest that we not spend too much time bragging on UAC capabilities in this regard. It might have the potential to draw unwelcome attention.

Of course, a master would be able to break a brick . . . . 10 bricks down in the pile. So, I kind of like that there's one efficacious method of getting after these creatures. Monks for the win! (Or monk wannabes)

All I picture in my mind when reading your comment is the movie Bloodsport when Van Damme breaks the bottom brick....

Of course....it would only make sense that crushing weapons would do more harm over a weapons that pokes. Oh well, was worth a try.

Pretty sure dwellers just have some innate crit padding. I definitely remember getting some eye crits on them with my katana but it was not consistent. It was creatures like these that made my warrior move towards twc/mstrike based builds.

Also, how did I miss this UCS messaging:

Yep, stop using 'attack' and use the uac critical stacking. Works well with stone and also high hp, low stun, hard-to-crit-with-attack critters like massive troll kings.

MTKs are trivially easy with UAC, but its a bug in the MTK rather than a UAC feature that's the reason. Stacking to death crits is a useful UAC feature for the likes of Krag Dwellers, but thats not what happens with MTKs where UAC is bypassing their refusal to die coding.
