Been gone a good 12 years and there was a bug with house pets not not coming when you call for them and it still seems to be going on. is there a fix for this? and if so how is it done?

Make sure your home settings are set to allow familiars. As I understand it, the housepets were sort of a mutant version of the familiar code. If it doesn't allow familiars, it will also block your pet. (You can also summon them anywhere in the neighborhood, not just your home.)
