Tarts to temporarily increase weight 07/28/2015 01:22 AM CDT
I was just thinking about how characters cannot accept nor pick up items that weigh a certain fraction of their character's weight. I think it's like "more than half" but in any case the limitation certainly exists unless it was changed very recently.

My issue with the status quo is it's not the raw encumbrance itself (items totaling more than half a characters weight can be held, etc), just this little limit on what can be picked up off the ground or accepted from another player. I'm really not sure there's an existing way around it, since Strength (509), SimuCoins encumbrance potions, etc, only reduce the experienced encumbrance, not the character's ability to actually take hold of very heavy items which they could otherwise have from an encumbrance perspective.

The two cases that come to mind are finding a very heavy box while hunting; there's no way to even get it into your disk. I had to drag one back to town once. Luckily I found it in the Citadel and there are no barriers from inside the Citadel to River's Rest Commons for dragging purposes (though I suppose it would have been the most hilarious usage of Planar Shift, assuming inanimate objects can also be dragged through them).

The other case is the JailBox if, say, you have a cloak full of stuff. Had to call a GM on that one before.

It's a minor issue I've experienced over the years, but I never really thought of an interesting and fun way to resolve it, until today.

Gobble down a special tart, and for a short time, your weight is artificially increased. How much, and by what duration, and if they should stack, I don't have firm ideas about. Anyway, it sounds like a halfling-themed item to address a problem known to pester halflings (and probably gnomes) from time to time.

I note that the specific point is not elucidated on gswiki (https://gswiki.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Encumbrance) so unless anyone fills me in before I get a chance, I'll go ahead and do some testing!

Total carrying capacity = (2x body weight + unencumbered carrying capacity). The limit for accepting or getting an individual item is 1x body weight. The 1x body weight limit does not apply to receiving or gathering coins. The RT formula for picking up silvers regardless of encumbrance: ceil((total coins collected - 624) / 1250) = RT in seconds

Thanks Mark.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), Kaldonis can fit inside his own cloak, along with some other toys.

Although that would be a pretty good ability. I could just like have Raincail wear my cloak, peek out, kill something, and duck back inside!
