Troll kings are old critters, so they do some funky stuff. I suppose, as part of it turning into a full grown troll king, it was trying to grow a brain.

Good thing you were there to stop it!

Didn't dinosaurs have brains in their legs?

Re: Legs have brains? 01/07/2015 01:33 PM CST
No they didn't; many of the larger dinosaurs did however have a secondary neural ganglion in the pelvic area to help with posterior leg control. It is hypothesized that the length of the nervous pathway from brain to posterior legs in these critters would have made control of rear leg movements by the central nervous system too slow due to the lag in transmission of neural impulses. Given the lack of any live specimens to work with, it is likely that this theory will never really be confirmed. Umm, unless future geneticists can do a Jurassic Park number, that is.

Heavier armor? 01/07/2015 01:54 PM CST
This isn't a great ambush, and theoretically should go in the hunting strategies or brawling folders; I am posting it here because of the troll king ambush I posted a couple of entries back. That post can be used for comparison purposes.

This is the first time I went hunting Sheruvians using UAC. Comparing this to the troll king scenario, it took a bit longer to kill the Sheru lover (4 hits instead of 3); the UDF was a lot higher. They wear MBP, so I am suspecting this is the reason for the difference. Oh, and they love to use bind, and apparently don't stun, so I felt it was wiser to use vanish to keep from being bound into the middle of the next day. (This one was clearly prepping a spell). Rather stamina intensive.

So; is the armor responsible, or was there perhaps some other factor involved?

All males have a secondary neural ganglion in the pelvic area. We all think with it. I've been told that many many times, well, not in EXACTLY those words, but you get the idea, so it must be true.

I reckon its their armor. Squishier critters are reasonably killable at good position, but I generally would still be looking for position until excellent with harbs.

R>cman vanish

...
At this point its taken a Critical head wound, been silenced and can't cast. UAC stacks critical wounds to crit kills so its easier to crit kill on the next head punch. I'd hide here if I needed pushdown on the UDF, or just punch from the open if it was already stanced. I'd only vanish if there was some threat other than its spell that I was trying to avoid.

...

Also, I'd be going for the head on the second rather than the third attack (not if I was still at decent, but if I expected the 2nd attack to be at excellent, I'd be going for the head). If you'd landed this blow on its head rather than its leg, the fight would have ended here. Its a gamble, with a lower roll leg would work out better, but I reckon the odds are about 3:1 in favor of head aim working out better than leg aim here.
