A large copper coin would have thrilled me.
A faded scroll not so much. Especially since it was considered redeemed and not transferable the instant it was READ.

You don't read a coin to see what spells it might contain Itzel.
READing a scroll, especially one that is exactly identical to common treasure found scrolls, is the natural thing to do.
I honestly don't understand how this simple fact keeps getting ignored. If the coin was redeemed when it was LOOKed at, then fine. But somehow I doubt that was the case.

Alright, that's how they work. But the entire purpose of the feeder frenzy is to enhance the experience of the game for people. In this case what happens? You find something special, take a look at it with mounting excitement, only to realize that (A) You're ineligible to use it yourself, and (B) You can't give it to anyone else, either.
Better never to have found it at all than to have a sledgehammer pounded so suddenly into your hopes.

I think he's commenting on the fact that someone found a completely unique awesome goodness, and has the gumption to complain about the mechanism of delivery for it.
Although to be honest, I'm landing on the side of the original poster.
"Scroll" [also palimpsest, parchment, paper, et cetera] is a keyword that already has a useful meaning in-game, and what you do with scrolls is you read them (to find out what spells are on them).
Having a "scroll" that is actually a property deed, and then using the "read" verb to trigger the activation that says, "ah-HAH, this is now yours [cannot be sold or transferred!]" is... disingenuous at best.
Other possible approaches?
A different triggering verb would have been better.
Or perhaps making it a two-step process (like "read" gives you something on the order of "This appears to be a deed for a piece of property. You may need to 'examine' it more closely for all the full details.") in order to actually claim the property.
Best of all, perhaps, making it NOT a frigging "scroll" in the first place, of course.
.
The other one? A coin? Yeah, coins are already different, and people treat them differently. (Most people don't use "read" as the first verb they think of for them, for example.)
Plaque. Certificate. "Seal-bedecked vellum parchment" (although "parchment" would probably get read, also). Document, even.

But that's exactly what didn't happen. Nothing at all was delivered to him as he is ineligible for the property yet the very method of reading the scroll to see what he'd found, made it impossible for it to be delivered to anyone else, either.
In addition he's out the coins for having an NPC locksmith open the box as the fee was based on the "value" of what was inside but he actually didn't receive that value.

It seems like in this case, the GMs should resolve the scenario, either by releasing the property back into the treasure hopper or allowing him to sell it. The second one seems more fair. Any luck from referrals?

Without delving into the details of this situation, as we don't discuss individual account details publicly, the party who found the scroll was told to contact GM Kaikala, as she handles property issues.

That's reasonable. I'm not sure where the issue is, then, except that the method of property assignment with reading the scroll could have been a bit better designed, but that's in the past.

I was told that I can either forfeit my current property and claim the new one, or forfeit the new property and allow it to go back into the feeders.
Can't give it to a friend. Can't use it a prize for the MHO I'm an officer of. Had no intention of selling it or otherwise trying to profit from it. It would have either been a gift or a prize.
I have no objection whatsoever to not being able to own a second property on the same account. I do have an issue with the "Gotcha!" method of release.
Were a character with zero scroll reading to find 'a faded scroll', they may very well not attempt to read it themself and ask someone else to do so for them...and get screwed out of a property that should have been their's in the first place.
If the point is not to allow the person who finds it to give it away at all, then mere act of using GET to retreive the scroll should have triggered ownership, not READ.

Yeah, I have to agree with Richard on this one, that is bad way to release a property, and also a bad solution to the problem. He should be allowed to give(or sell) it to someone else. Or use as a prize.
This really does strike me as a GM GOTCHA! moment, which in turn means customer disappointment, which, in the long term, is bad for business.

Agreed. If the GMs are worried about him giving it to someone, then let him use it as a raffle prize for his MHO. That's random.
