That's fair. It's my exact equivalent of Kenstrom Standard Time being impossibly late, considering I'm actually a night walker that bursts into flames under direct sunlight.
I'm glad we get to know the other possible outcomes. Even if I do not get to destroy part of the world. Especially, like, the halfling parts.

As a non-KST player, YES it was surprising and quite appreciated.

Wyrom really can't win here. He either:
* Puts an "honest" damage tracker in the meteor, and people whine about breaking it on off hours.
* Schedules the ending independent of actual damage done, and people whine about "Gee, sure is convenient that it broke at 8 PM Eastern. I bet all our bashbashbashing was just for show. Didn't make any difference at all."
I guess you could try to find somewhere in the middle, but it would only really feel right under certain RP setups. Basically, "Yay! You broke the thing! The thing is now transmogrifying until later tonight, and will be ready for further exploration then."

Yeah. Um. . . no, I'm not a fan. "Living world."

When I was a player, I always hated when a GM was like... "Go find the book of answers and return on this date!" But the book of answers was not something we could actually find, so we just waited for the GM to move the plot on said date.
When I was the Platinum Guru, I ended up making something called the AlertMeProp so I could leave a plot device out in the game for a player to discover. It emails the GM who set it up to let you know it has been found.
I don't get to run a lot of storylines anymore, but it's open use for GMs.

Actually being able to do something without you around was one of my favorite things about your stories. I love knowing that if I'm told to search for something I can actually find it even if it's 3 AM when I do my searching.

The delaying tactic in this situation could have been the spirit pops out of the crystal after whatever is done at the arbitrary convenient-for-most-people time, where the crystal cannot be damaged because blah blah some field around it, but the hole in the meteor would have cracked whenever.
This isn't a complaint. It just adds to my character's disdain for the Order of Voln. It is totally incomprehensible to him why you would cut down a 10,000 year old spirit at the exact moment it starts revealing its secrets. And he loves killing helpless pathetic things.

Sure he wins.
A lot of players still play out having their characters interpret the resulting rumors about what haoppened in ways that best match how to play their characters.
>ducks the grammar checker<
It's not about the event itself, but about how our characters react to it.

This sounds awesome and I hope it gets used! I love the idea of players finding clues and portentous artifacts :) Sounds like it could be used for like, a game of Elanthian Clue too... :D

You could put a Book of Instruction in each of the GM offices, and have an AlertMeProp script on it for every time they look up the syntax of how to use it...

This is rather off on a tangent but since the Order of Voln has been mentioned a few times, it is worth noting that in the northern part of the Empire (Hendor and neighboring provinces), the Dandrellians are the most influential school of thought within the Order. Their view is that evil is not simplistic and one should seek not to simply adhere to the literal word of Voln's mandate, but to understand the value of souls and to evolve in that understanding.
