Gemstone Wiki Guide Contest (Additional Info!) 02/06/2015 10:39 AM CST
Howdy Everyone,

First, please delight in the fact that your contest overseer has actually posted this announcement in a manner that will allow the puzzled or curious to reply on the forums with questions.

Second, in order to help focus work in the contest (and to help me keep an eye on who is doing what), I have updated the wiki's contest page to include links to either existing articles which can be the focus of everyone's work or to brand new pages (literally, they're blank slates waiting for content) to work on. Here's the link to the contest page again:

Additionally, as a matter of convenience, here are links to the aforementioned selected pages, broken down by generality, profession, and locations. The last, locations, is more of a second tier area to work on, but definitely, if you may not feel confident about offering information on how to start playing or playing your profession to the best, but you know your home town inside and out, this is your forum to shine!

So, I've been working on a page about buff spells (because who doesn't love buff spells?) with the idea that it can be useful for new players who don't know what spells they should basically always have running (or ask for from other players). That counts for this, right?

We marked it with a New Player category...

If it's something that every player should know, then it definitely should count. Investigate, however, if it can be incorporated into the general new player's guide or not, and at the very least, it should probably be something linked from that guide. You might also consider whether you can add a section to each profession guide for specific profession spells, such as, Rangers should always have X running or Paladins Y running, etc.

Thanks for the participation!

I think it's definitely something that's reasonable to link, once the general new player's guide gets to a "So you're going out to hunt" point (last I checked it didn't seem to be there). But I'm hoping to provide a bit more detail than one might want on the general new player's guide page, though so I think it's good on its own for now.

I could definitely add a section with a list of buff spells that each class can cast on themselves and should have running before going out hunting to the profession pages and then include a link back to the general buff spell page I've made for the spells they can ask other players about.

Once the buff spell page is more completed and in better shape, we can see about taking the professional sections as individual pages, then they can be wrapped into different places while being edited at a central place. I'll look into it.
