Re: Coup De Grace Setup Snippets 01/08/2017 09:49 AM CST
Here is my CMAN setup and an unedited log from my bandit hunt just now. Just a few general notes on how I use coup: I coup most to clean up when i'm open mstriking alot or facing some things with high defense/cloak of shadows that are being annoying(masters and cerebralites). Its also servicable as an alternate method to supplement my Attack Strength buff rotation if I cannot use Holler. I have an Lich alias setup to use wtrick appraise and have highlighted the various health thresholds so I can tell when a creature is at "very poor shape" or below to know when I can use rank 3 coup. If I wasnt lazy, I would make this into a script for more efficiency but i'm lazy, heh. If I could afford the points I would get rank 5 Coup for better Cman roll results. The 50% health threshold is nice as well, however, the wtrick appraise messaging does not accurately read the 50% health from my experience so I usually stick with rank 3. I rarely use Cairn's Cry to boost my CMAN roll unless I really feel the need to get more attack strength, however, that is also a huge boost when needed.

Confirm: Undead don't stun out of Reim? It's a near general rule, but I think it has a few exceptions. I double checked the wiki. Basically you can't coup undead, mostly. I think..

Ooo Coup de Grace setups. Here is a mostly unedited log (single Lnet snippet pared) of how I do it. Note that I don't WT APPRAISE in it; this is because after so many years of playing the 'huehue how long can i keep this boost going' game, most mobs I can pretty much eyeball remaining health and status. Also of note, I don't really need to bust out the big guns on bandits, hence the lower AS.

[Outlands Manor, Exterior]
A rotted modwir overhang protects the west entrance of the manor house. The door itself is made of oaken heartwood and appears to be firm and solid. Rusted helms, aventails, and other bits of armor lie scattered about, as well as a pile of broken weapons.

Executioner's Stance executioner 3

It's one of those reasons why I don't turn on COMBAT BRIEF, so I can watch their HP. Bandits seem to have approximately 250-300 HP, give or take a few- so at around 150 damage dealt, with Rank 5 Coup de Grace, they basically become an example to their squad to change profession. Notice too that the ~30 seconds of morale penalty on any surviving bandits (along with the damage from my opening salvo) keeps their AS pretty low- particularly the last few successes, with a 39 and 40 bonus respectively.

As I've also found, most hunting areas have a 'bait' creature. So in my experience there, it's been dybbuks in Bonespear, heralds in the Citadel, yeti on the Krag Slopes, minotaur magi in the Labyrinth, hilariously deserved Illoke Elders in the Bowels, IIRC it was vaespilons in Plane 5, and currently I've been using lurks (plentiful) and fanatics (grudge vs. dispelling mobs) in the Sanctum, though that's a far dicier place to try it in, because 8 seconds of hard RT is ripe for a giant swarm to immediately descend- and stamina intensive, because to properly set them up, they have to be in stacked RT or they'll break the stun. It's a bit of a mean time and stamina investment where both are at a major premium vs never-ending swarms that literally travel in packs (see: stuck in mstrike RT as six+ lurks mosey in).

So really, other than some circumstantial uses (grudge gibbing certain mobs), it's more of a minigame challenge/novelty than an actual hunting tactic- like a lot of the CML, unfortunately. Still fun though.

<Confirm: Undead don't stun out of Reim? It's a near general rule, but I think it has a few exceptions. I double checked the wiki. Basically you can't coup undead, mostly. I think..>

Some of them do stun (even as noncorp) but coup probably doesn't work on them due to noncorp, unless you smite first.

I can try a bit later today though.

My problem has been counting remaining health, in that I hit the things hard in 1-2 they like to die on me. I'm going to add back in Coup 3 and see if I can't more reliably hit these. A few months ago I updated the health stats of a bunch of creatures on the Wiki with some intent of this.

The setups continue to be awesome. Thanks for those. I think I'm going to try some of mine in Sanctum of Scales. :) (And die a few times.)

The Attack boost from Coup doesn't stack with Holler?

Fantastic overview. I'd like to pull it off in invasions, but you know full well I do bandits fully buffed. I can't manage Coup 5. If I could pull it off decent it kind of replaces an aimed neck maul shot with similar RT.

Coup impacted by encumbrance?

Coup works on some undead. Its been a long time since I tried it but there were some oddities when using it unarmed on undead, even when wearing blessed gloves. Likewise, smite wont let you coup non-corps. That may all have been fixed by now, though. Coup definitely stacks with holler I was more referring to when I get silenced or lose my voice it is an option until I can holler again.

Yeah, I can't Coup de Grace anything in Reim or noncorp in general, which is probably just a side effect of Smite being a temporary status effect vs. their hardcoded permanent noncorp status. I also can't barehanded Coup de Grace anything even with blessed gauntlets and of le course Kai's Strike- gotta bust out the sword for that.

Encumbrance-wise, it works like any other CM- your bonus eventually turns into a penalty, etc.

CMans are set up to work with armor locations, not inventory locations. So blessed gauntlets which are armor accessories should work, but ones which are UAC don't. The messaging implies arms are the relevant location for coup and I don't remember it needing anything but armwraps blessed, but its a long time since I used it on undead.
