Deleting my rambling post about the Palestra evening. Suffice it to say, as a player I was really blinking that evening. I hope the issue is reevaluated by staff.

Over all the symposium was a very entertaining week. Very well done to players and staff.

I particularly liked Silvean's art evening and coming in a close second the evening of song and tales.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in an Elanthia far, far away, there were a number of characters who were knighted as Imperial knights. Each of these characters were very deserving of the title, having exhibited all the requirements of knighthood, in the extreme.

However, this was not to be, and each of these characters had their knighthoods removed and it was as if they had never been knighted at all, no matter the sacrifices they had made or how well they portrayed the virtues of knighthood or how deserving they were. Personally, I feel that the giving of any title that the run of the mill player, of any class or race, cannot achieve is a bad thing in GS. It raises one character above another and there is no recourse for non-knights to become knights unless they are of a particular race or class (I'm not picking on knights here, just using them as an example. I could also add the Hall of Mages as well I suppose).

I think Palestra are of the same mold. I personally do not think players should be Palestra, but since we already have knights in the game then perhaps Palestra should be considered as well.

Just my two cents worth.

Obviously there's a lot to consider with Palestra stuff, given the idea has existed a longer time than any policy about them, but I wonder if perhaps it could all be a matter of semantics (and to that I blame those Illistim elves). Should we perhaps distinguish between Palestra Warriors and Palestra-trained Warriors?

Overall though, the composition of society as a whole is always something that makes me wonder. While it is well and good to say a huge percentage is engaged in various magical pursuits (or protecting them), there still needs to be an infrastructure in place to support that. But there must be plenty of warriors engaged in guarding type activities given the magical laws.

But mostly, is 500 too old to start training? I still have hope, but there are just so many distractions around.
