Different accounts either freeze or experiencing lag 03/25/2016 12:23 PM CDT
I have been having an issue since last week saturday March 19th. I either lag badly or freeze up to the point where it makes no sense to play. This morning it seems fine while I play Aaysia... but my F2P sorcerer is frozen. I have the feeling if I log Aaysia out it'll be lag city again, or worse.

I have ruled out my ISP being the issue. The game would take forever to load, however lich lnet chat worked fine. I have tried logging into GS without lich with the same issue. Tried to download the Wizard FE to log in that way and could not successfully download the file. I tried connected through a vpn, which showed improvement last night as I was able to hunt with a friend but I still had a bit of lag.

Both F2P accounts experience less lag and connectivity issues overall in comparison to the subscription account. I am thoroughly stumped, and frustrated. Any insight/help is appreciated.

Wireless router?

Anything change (drivers for example) on your computer system?

Changes to the coffee heating in the microwave schedule (if in an apartment, including the neighbors?)

I turned off the router and plugged the cable directly to the pc. Same issues.

Nope, in a house. Voltage regulator attached to the pc as well.

I have had the same issues once or twice, but not in months. Running them from the same PC, on ethernet. Persisted across disconnecting and reconnecting all characters involved, slow and quick.

It's just darned odd. I don't have anything comparable in my experience.

If it's SF, and you save your highlights and macros on the server, you might try saving them locally. But I don't know that would cause this.

Yep it has stumped my techy friends. I don't mind too much if it affects my F2P girls as I play them casually but Aaysia I play mainly and it is mighty frustrating when I can't.

Do try checking the macro / script settings - if they're saved on server or locally. Preference would be locally as there's a limit to the server storage provided per account.

It might also not be a bad idea to clean up some of that if possible. I don't have access to the code for SF, but as a general rule, I wouldn't be surprised if there were challenges with saving too many 'configuration items'.

Update. I emailed gsfeedback and GM Andeja asked for me to do a tracert. The results showed possible packet loss. I called my ISP again who insisted they weren't the issue, they asked for GS' website to look into the connectivity from their end. As of yesterday afternoon the login issue was resolved on my end, so I guess my ISP was the culprit despite them denying it.

When you communicated with them to thank them for resolving your issue, did you suggest a new slogan for their company?

I'm thinking ISPName: Fast enough for your porn, too slow for text-based games.

The deathbot will come back eventually.

Absolutely riotously funny! And not too far from the truth, sadly.

Streaming (all types, Daid!) is getting the lions' share of QoS presently. Email, text and packet based services are getting the reduced side.

Who knows where it might end? Before long we might be back on modems as the only way to 'guarantee' timely delivery of packet based or asynchronous messages - otherwise we're stuck behind that 5GB movie download.

I know right? I may have stressed on the text based part vs streaming video with a lowered level of politeness the second time around.
