1005 - questions about info on gswiki 12/13/2016 10:48 PM CST
The gswiki says:
If the end result is ≥ 0, it's successful. There are 4 success tiers, which is determined by the [(end result / 40) + 1] (min. 1, max. 4), with undead and demonic creatures also adding 1 (for rounding), but then reducing the result by half.

Then it goes on to list 3 "Messaging" for successful lullabye attemps:
Drowsy - eyes flutter slightly, and it appears dazed.
Half Sleep - relaxes and sits down, entranced by the soothing melody.
Full Sleep - falls to the ground in a deep slumber.

Is there another successful messaging or are there just 3 successful results? The info says there are 4 success tiers. Would drowsy be Tier 1 or 2? If 2, what is tier 1?
I'm guessing tier 3 = half sleep
I'm guessing tier 4 = full sleep

Lastly, what exactly does this part mean? with undead and demonic creatures also adding 1 (for rounding), but then reducing the result by half.
How does it get worked into the equation?

Let's say I have a successful cast and the hidden endroll = 60
[(end result / 40) + 1] (how does the bold line above add into the equation?)
((60/40)+1+1)/2 (is this how it would look?)

Knowing nothing about the spell itself, this is my interpretation:

Let's say I have a successful cast and the hidden endroll = 60
[(end result / 40) + 1] (how does the bold line above add into the equation?)
((60/40)+1+1)/2 (is this how it would look?)

No. The endroll is part of the so-called "bold line" earlier in the article.

Let's say you are a level 59 bard with 35 bard ranks and 15 INF bonus, hunting a level 58 critter with 10 DIS bonus. You roll a 60 (out of 150).

Your "Lullaby Attack", same vs. any critter:

LA: 59 * 5 + 35 + 15 + 60 = 405

It's "Lullaby Defense":

LD: 58 * 5 + 58 / 2 + 10 = 329

Your end result, LA - LD: 405 - 329 = 76. 76 is the number that gets plugged into the equation you quoted:

(76/60) + 1 = (1) + 1 = Rank 2 result. You'd need to roll a 94 for a Rank 3 result, and would be unable to get a Rank 4 result on this creature with your current stats/skills.

If the creature was undead, things wouldn't have gone so well.

It's LD would get another +30:
LD: 58 * 5 + 58 / 2 + 10 + 30 = 359

Giving you 405 - 359 = 46 as an end result.

46/60 + 1 = 1, but then we need to add 1 and halve, giving us: (1 + 1)/2 = 1, still rank 1. Because you can't get much worse than rank 1.

That said, to get a rank 2 result, you'd need to have a d150 roll of 134, which would give you:

LA = 59 * 5 + 35 + 15 + 134 = 479
LD = 58 * 5 + 58 / 2 + 10 + 30 = 359
LA - LD = 120

120/60 + 1 = 3, (3 + 1)/2 = rank 2.

For a rank 3 result, you'd need a roll of 254 on a d150, and for rank 4, a roll of 374. So yeah, maybe don't use lullaby on the undead.

(That's assuming rank 3 and rank 4 results are even possible. As the article is written, it might be impossible, depending on when the max of 4 is applied. A high-level bard and a level 1 skeleton could answer that quickly, though.)

>PFLATS's post

That's exactly what I figured on the equation of it all so I'm glad someone else sees it like I do.

Now I'm still searching for all Tier levels of success. We're told there are 4 Tier levels.

Tier 4 = Full Sleep
Tier 3 = Half Sleep
Tier 2 = Drowsy??? (most likely this is tier 2)
Tier 1 = ???

Success is when the results returned are > 0 and there are 4 Tier levels. I've been trying to figure out what the other missing successful lullaby messaging may be, but my bard is well trained for the spell and usually the target is way too high a level and I'm unsuccessful or I half sleep or full sleep the targets. I'll keep playing.

Thanks for the info contribution.

I think the tier you're missing is where it's dazed (not doing anything against you) but still standing.

Yeah, from being on the receiving end via Ithzir heralds, I would guess that tier 1 is the one that inflicts direct RT (distracted?), while tier 2 is the one that inflicts a +3 RT slow effect (eyes flutter/dazed?).

Nice. I'll add that to my list and keep an eye out for it when out and about with my bard.

Thanks!
