Bolt DS 04/21/2016 10:31 AM CDT
I've recently started hunting the confluence and noticed that my Bolt DS is garbage against the elemental's spells, and I'm having trouble balancing the dispell mechanic from their physical attacks, to keep 401,406,414 up.

Can I raise my bolt DS by training in edged weapons and holding an arrow in my right hand? Does that work at all?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

This would have no effect. Parry DS only works against bolts if you're using a runestaff.

If you want to increase your DS against bolts, you need to increase either your block DS or your evade DS. For the former you'd need to train in Shield Use and start carrying a shield (prolly not practical for an archer). To increase the later you can increase your Dodge training, ensure you have the Armor training to minimize your armor's penalty (or get a lower ASG armor), and keep your encumbrance as low as possible.

An alternative to increasing your DS against bolts that works for some people would be to move up to a higher ASG armor and rely on it to minimize the damage bolts do when they hit. The disadvantages would be that you'd get hit more often and you'd have more difficulty remaining in the shadows if you're a sniper.

I do both, higher ASG armor and loads of dodge. I noticed you play a giant, which means your dodge won't be stellar to begin with, so getting that up as high as possible can't hurt. Also, you get an increase to the dodge benefits of 618 with more ranger circle spell training. My ranger is also trained up to 140 in the minor spirit circle and I use it when I'm up against something very dangerous.

But for now, if I were you, I'd get those dodge ranks up, ASAP.

You can get ranged DS by holding something you aren't trained in, but not something you are trained in. (Its a bug, but I reckon its robbing you of stance/2 DS under normal circumstances rather than giving you DS you aren't entitled to when holding acantha)
