I seem to have forgotten the specifics on the Guard mechanic. Was it changed to work as I wander from room to room? And what was the bonus to my DS in guard mode?

Also is there a way to NOT have the companion auto attack and auto guard instead when I'm stunned? I dislike it breaking my calm on bandits although it's not that big of a deal.
