Fall Fashion Discussion Notes 08/27/2012 10:39 AM CDT
Here are the notes from EE's fashion discussion held a few weeks ago. Just a little guideline for fall fashion if anyone is interested. Stay tuned for the next discussion on winter wear!

Women - Daytime Wear:
* Fall is a season of feathers - particularly the swan and raven varieties.
* Hats are the trend for daytime - smaller sizes are common, usually made
from silks and velvets, although larger-brimmed styles are still
fashionable this season, as long as they are shaped. Embellishments are a
must - jewels, feathers, ribbons, brooches and even small birds. Singular
bright accents are popular as well.
* Casual dresses of lighter materials, such as thin wool and brocade, are
accented by corsets and bodices. Square necklines are back. Colors are
neutral for the fall daytime season, leaving lots of room for individual
tastes.
* Boots are the shoe for the daytime hours, crafted from silks and brocades
as well. Lower and thicker heels have been seen on many fashionable ladies,
and matching hats and boots are not uncommon. Accents, such as buckles and
feathers, are also encouraged.
* Jewelry provides a contrast in both shape and color. Chunky pieces,
crafted of metal, have been seen as rings, lariats and earrings. Garnets
and pearls appear to be popular.
* Carryalls and totes are the containers of choice in rich toned leathers
and suede.

Women - Evening Wear:
* Gowns in tones of wine reds and purples dominate the trend, sewn from
silk velvets and textured leathers. Single-shoulder and drop-shouldered
varieties are common, with accents of charcoal greys and blacks blending
into the mix.
* Point-toed shoes have made a reemergence and have been seen in almost
every color and fabric available.
* The fall season has brought back the fullness of mantles and pelisses for
evening wear, using feathers as both lining and adornment. Ladies have been
seen carrying clutches of wood and metal for more formal occasions.
* Chunky jewelry is also worn in the evenings, although back-pendants and
extravagant earrings are more popular in the evening time.

Men - Daytime Wear
* As the weather begins to take a turn for the cooler, men are wearing
tunics, doublets and even gambesons crafted of leather or with leather
accents. Arming doublets in thicker weaves are also fashionable. Shades of
black, greens, blues and greys have dominated the trend for both tops and
bottoms, although matching the two is strongly discouraged.
* Gentleman have embraced the well-tailored pant, using more snug styles in
fabrics of wool and suede.
* Wide belts accent the close-cut fabrics of the male's outfit. Buckles,
wrought in the shapes of magical beasts and birds, are crafted of darker
metals, although kelyn has been the prevalent trend.
* Boots are also popular for men, crafted of sturdier materials versus
their female counterparts and toed in matching dark metals.
* Outwear is broad-shouldered and knee-length, usually in the form of coats
and longcoats. Neutral-toned wools lined in silk brocade or bourde has been
seen on many gentleman throughout the west.

Men - Evening Wear
* Tall hats, crafted from satin or leather, are common for the fall,
calling for simple adornment, such as banding or a single feather. Cavalier
hats are also acceptable for the evening.
* Jackets and smoking jackets have become very popular for formal
occasions. Sewn with wider lapels, these jackets are usually velvet or any
soft material that can withstand the cool fall evenings.
* In contrast to the rich, darker color scheme of women's evening wear,
menswear is leaning more towards tones of cinnamon and taupe, with the
occasional ecru piece thrown in for accent.
* Waistcoats and pants are sewn from matching materials, with angled
pockets and a thin metal chain strung from the pocket of either.
* Shoes are low-heeled and well-oiled, cobbled from brushed suede and
reptile skins, adding an interest element to an otherwise streamlined
outfit.
* Amber and sunstone dominate the accessories for evening, from neckchains
to rings and cufflinks. Darker colors, such as green, gold and red are
preferred.
