>>Correct. Character transfers are typically a lot easier to track this and don't usually run into this problem. Account takeovers do run into it though.

So a persons best bet, if they acquired a character via account takeover with multiple violations, is just do a character transfer to a new account so you can prove you are not the original owner? Do I need to close my brothers account because he has 5 violations and I took his account over a couple years ago? I do not want his poor judgement to hurt me in the future.

No, don't do all that. Proving you're not the original owner doesn't have anything to do with it. The account will be linked to you. A person's best bet is not to violate policy. GameMasters have no access to link your account. That is all done through billing. But if you have warnings from 2 years ago, they aren't going to have much of an impact on you today unless you display the same behaviors. When I mentioned being fair, we just go through your history. If your other accounts are pristine or maybe a blemish here and there, you won't have too much to worry about.

I can't believe yea'll are actually telling folk they're considered HMC.... I bet that's generating some interesting e-mails/ASSISTs....

My understanding is that every person who's gotten flagged as HMC should have already known it, and that it requires like... all the levels of approval and a sit-down from the PM before it's applied.

Where I work we just quietly stop giving them auto discounts cause we know they're going to be making up stuff to get more freebies anyway and put them front of the line to be sent elsewhere when we're over-booked. On the other hand, the polite ones quietly get things removed from the bill before they ever see it and get upgrades without asking.

Proper procedure is that everyone is contacted about their warnings and status, and they can always request to talk about it. This has been the case for over ten years, I can't say for sure when it started. This is just to help with transparency.

>There are many reasons that you were set up to be monitored for vulgarity. I'll touch on a few common reasons.
>- You're on a new character.
>Being monitored doesn't necessarily mean you've violated the policy. I just want to make that clear.

Can the wording upon login for the above (monitoring due to new characters) be changed, please? Currently, it looks like this:
"You are currently being monitored for vulgarity due to previously using some inappropriate language in a public area of the game. If you're unaware of our vulgarity rules, please review POLICY 2, 3, and 17. Continued use of vulgarity in public areas may result in a lockout within the vulgarity cell or an inability to progress in the game."

As it currently stands, it calls out previous behavior, regardless of whether or not it occurred.

Thanks!

I realize this post is two weeks old, but I went through all the code tonight to see why you might be getting this messaging on login.

This only occurs if you used vulgarity. There are some exceptions, if you used vulgarity in a private setting or if you were alone, you will incur no vulgarity monitoring on your character. Strong vulgarity can cause the system to trigger if specific combinations of words are used or many vulgar terms are used in a whisper or private ESP. I've gone head and changed the logic of the vulgarity system to go through some other routines to not give a false positive to those who abide by the vulgarity policy as detailed in POLICY 2, 3, and 17. Keep in mind, if the receiving end of private vulgarity doesn't consent to it, they can get staff involved (which is detailed in POLICY).

Also, since I was poking around in the code tonight, I've improved when monitoring starts. New characters won't blindly be monitored unless you use a vulgar term. This isn't a retroactive change, so some of you may be monitored who haven't been vulgar. But going back to what I mentioned, if you used strong vulgarity, you could have triggered the system in a whisper or in private ESP.

I'm surprised vulgarity monitoring is triggering off whispers, since you've made multiple posts indicating whispers are considered private:

"Make sure the area is actually private or you're whispering." -Wyrom, post 305
"Keeping it to whispers in public areas is recommended." -Wyrom, post 368

If whispers are okay, then why auto-monitor on whispers?

If possible, I would like to pursue this as I began getting this messaging on a character that was only two or three days old, and do not recall ever getting it on any other character. Please let me know the best way to do this?

Thank you.

Strong vulgarity, which I have to leave as that, will cause monitoring. As I mentioned in my previous post, I improved how it triggers.

You can use the email author link and send me an email. If you wish to do this in game, you'll need to assist, request a referral, and then request an SGM referral. If you wish to take it up the chain-of-command, you can email gsfeedback@simutronics.com.
