A moonflower crown 06/25/2019 08:58 PM CDT
Her favorite item and one she wore, nearly every day since her birth and all the way to her departure, was a moonflower crown. She wove it into every poem, every song, every Bardfest performance. She spent most of her later years in Elanthia by Primum's side and adored the time they shared, right up until his player's passing quite a few years ago. I think that was what struck the final chord in Ahmie's Elanthian Adventure - but I can tell you that this place, her friends, and the adventures and stories she both created and lived, were some of her best memories--GemStone, Elanthia, the Black Wolves, the Lorekeepers of Silverwood Manor, and House Aspis, were a huge part of both Ahmeuseng's and her puppeteer's life. We played together often, and I have many fond memories of attending Ebon Gate and spending the entire weekend, with little sleep and lots of soda and snacks, running from merchant to merchant and from shop to shop, looking for the next-best-thing. It's pretty awesome to do that with your parent! Even though it has been quite a few years since she set foot into this magical world, I know there are still those around who knew her.

It is with tremendous sadness and a very heavy heart that I tell you that Ahmeuseng's player, my mother, passed away this past weekend. And, while I ache to think that I can't write silly songs anymore with my mother, I know that somewhere, probably in a place full of moonflowers and music, Ahmie is leading a sing-along and probably correcting someone's typos and grammar. Love you, Mom.

edit: Ugh, how could I forget the Mentors?? She loved this role that she had! It's what finally convinced me to go in that direction, as well.

A beautiful tribute to Ahmie. While it's been many, many years since I interacted with her, I remember her fondly. My thoughts are with you and your family.

You already know my thoughts about your Mom, but she was my mentor, friend, confidant, and partner in crime in so many fun shenanigans. She was the sweetest, most wonderful lady one could ever hope to meet.
We spent many hours over many drinks at my first con talking, sharing, and laughing.
The world is a little less colorful without her beautiful songs. I have no doubt that she and Primum are sharing drinks and songs, and watching us.
Hugs Haliste, Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm sorry for your loss, Haliste. Please take care of you and yours.

Someone asked after a screenshot of Ahmie's appearance earlier this week, to which I quickly scrubbed my logs unbeknownst of why. There she was at every Bardfest I still had a log for. Despite the bittersweet reason for the inquiry, the nostalgic jaunt left me so very thankful all the wonderful memories we've made together in this special virtual home. GS truly is family.

Bardfest, Jul 17, 2000:
You see Lady Ahmeuseng Swallowtail the Elf.
She appears to be in her 50's, has short, curly dark brown hair, green eyes, and tanned skin.
She has a blue butterfly tattoo on her neck.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a flawless lily-white blouse, a gold ring, a carved monir harp pin with sparkling silver strings, a pure silver Aspis pin, a Cholen crest, a glowing amulet, a variegated feather cloak, a butterfly charm, a fragrant moonflower crown, a flawless lily-white skirt, and a pair of silver and gold sandals.

I cannot express the depth of my sadness to hear of the passing of our dear Ahmie, silly elf, scion of the Black Wolves, and beloved of Primum Defendre. I have not seen her in many years and have often wondered about her. I do hope her last years were happy ones and cannot help but think that you, Haliste, were blessed to be her RL daughter.

Back in the day, Elven folk were not allowed to join the Black Wolves (due to our history with them), not even Ahmeuseng, the beloved of our founder Primum. She won the 11th Annual Argent Apsis Bardfest with her song on the subject, "Ahmie's Lament":

The age of Elven power, long ago
When Elves ruled even more than they could see,
Brought cultural expansion, greater wealth,
While humans bore the curse of tyranny.

One Aramur, a wizard, learned from elves,
And lived within Illistim walls until
He saw, firsthand, the treatment of his kind.
Yet power-hungry elves would guide him still.

As human slaves, mistreated, took up arms.
An Elven prince would die. Of course, that’s true.
But wasn’t human plan that killed the prince.
Was Elven greed that turned the deadly screw.

>Black Wolves have been most kind to me.
>Guess Primum said they had to be.
>Up on Frith's roof
>They're not aloof.

>But I can't join the clan!

The Black Wolves, starved and weakened, heard the news
Of silver headed through an outpost east.
Manipulation, lies, the Elven keys
That unlocked human hope, a chance at least.

>Why can't I join the Black Wolves' Clan
>To work beside that grand ol' man?
>Exclusion's bad An makes me sad.
>But I'm glad I'm an elf.

They forewarned women, children, left behind
To pray to Kai and ask Lorminstra’s care.
With battle plan devised they traveled east
To seize and camp the Elven outpost there.

The treasure caravan would pass that way.
A swift attack, take out the guards! That done
They’d steal the silvers. Few lives should be lost.
Just one small battle ‘gainst the Elves thus won.

>The Wolves won't let me join the clan.
>I've not some sly, subversive plan
>To undermine
>Their work so fine.

>They just say Ahmie, no!

They found no silver, rather Vaalor prince,
First heir to elven throne. Shaft pierced his side,
And through the royal crest seeped bloody tints.
These were their first signs that the Elves had lied.

The wizard leader took the wounded child
Up in his arms and fled west. Even then
He knew his magic, lesser than the elves,
Was not enough to save the Black Wolves’ Den.

>He'll sit beside me while we drink.
>He tells me silly jokes. I'd think
>He'd want me there.
>But he'll declare

>That I can't join the clan.

The tiny prince would die, this Aramur knew.
He knew, as well, the Black Wolves’ end was near.
As Black Wolves weakened, Elven forces grew
And stormed the Den, confirming Aramur’s fear.

>It's not like I need stuff to do.
>I'm fairly busy, that's quite true.
>Their principle, Political.
>So I can't join the clan.

I took a walk with Primum through the Den
An’ smelled the blood, saw visions, heard the moans.
I closed my eyes, forbad my ears to hear
The cacophonic elegy of bones.

In one sparse room, two skeletons entwined,
Two empty vials gave hint to chosen fate.
The nursery with cribs and painted stars.
What horror Elven greed did motivate.

>I still can't join the Black Wolves' Clan.
>The rules are strict an' I've no plan,
>To plot, disguise, Or otherwise
>Finagle my way in.

Such painful signs remain near Darkstone Bay.
The seal of red and black still marks the spot
Where women, men and children lost their lives,
And wailing voices tell what tales cannot.

Those of the Black Wolves Clan who remain will mourn her passing. We will celebrate her life at our next meeting, and I am in hopes that there will be a memorial service held.

Haliste, my deepest condolences. I remember Ahmie fondly.

I searched my logs for her name and what I found were tons of lines of her cheering others on at Bardfest. She was a lovely human being who brought us a lot of light and joy.

Auntie H.:

I knew your mother's bard only in passing, but she seemed a lovely person. I wish you good memories, bearable pain, and a grief that you can carry without breaking. This may only come with time. If you want to talk of her, I will gladly listen and learn.

Yours quietly,

I'm very sorry to hear the news of the loss of you mother. Although I didn't know her well I do remember her at the bardfests I got dragged to. I'm glad I was so I was able to hear her her wonderful songs. If there were an in game memorial wall her name would be topped with a moonflower crown. We've lost many an adventurer over the years and it never gets any easier. With my deepest condolences and respect.
