Executioner's Stance - buggy or unlucky? 12/09/2021 11:51 AM CST
Is there something buggy about Executioner's Stance or am I just really unlucky and it hasn't triggered for me yet?

I've invested in 1 rank in the stance, that should be a 20% chance for a killing blow on one creature with a THW to continue the attack on a second creature in the room at a -25 AS loss.

I have yet to see this trigger over the past 2 days of using it.

My warrior hunts with a quarterstaff and last I checked it is classified as a THW. He's been actively hunting bandits the past couple days and they usually spawn 2 or 3 in group, but sometimes 1 or 4.

As long as there are at least 2+ in a group, I start with an unfocused mstrike and most of the time they all get stunned or I'm give a chance to use OVERPOWER. The mstrike sometimes kills one of the bandits, but that's only about 10% of the time. I'm usually left simply attacking the bandits until the die.

When I'm left with 2-4 bandits and I kill one with a basic attack, I still have yet to see Executioner's Stance trigger. I've gone through about 200 bandits as of yesterday and today. Every single strike that shows up on my screen always has my full AS of 279. If Executioner's Stance were to trigger, my AS should only be 254 for that attack and I figure I should see some kind of messaging that it triggered.

On a side note, does Executioner's Stance have a chance to trigger if you kill a creature using OVERPOWER or REVERSE STRIKE? Sometimes I do get kills using those skills.

Still wondering if this CMAN stance is bugged. I keep killing things with my THW wielding - quarterstaff - warrior and have yet to see it trigger.

I can see how having 1 rank in the skill and only having a 20% chance for it to trigger....but after 500+ critter and bandit kills with multiple creatures in the room and not once seeing it trigger, it leaves me to think something is very wrong or my guy just sucks at getting the RNG to hit that 20% chance.

I suppose it could be the RNG, I do have awful times with it...like when I went into the forge with 20 best blade pieces and 20 best handle pieces and didn't get one perfect weapon, even with the Gift of Eonake going. Not the first time it's happened either. I've had 3 different occasions where I didn't come out with a single perfect weapon. So, sometimes my luck just sucks.

I have another warrior that's TWC and he's got 1 rank of the Stance of Mongoose and he sees that thing trigger all the time. Granted it's got a 50% chance to trigger over the 20% chance of 1 rank in Executioner's stance, but it still triggers often.

Inspect your weapon and make sure it isn't a runestaff.

You carefully inspect your quarter staff.

After a careful inspection you determine that a glowbark quarter staff is a quarter staff and requires skill in twohanded weapons to use effectively.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of glowbark.

Assuming your weapon has the correct weapon base it should be working. Here are the results of a few test swing using the quarter staff from above.

I didn't get the other 'success' result with my very limited testing but the manuever appears to be generally working with a quarter staff. If you have the correct weapon base but still can't get it to activate I can do some additional testing to confirm the 2nd target effect as well.

Failing all that (and correct weapon base) you may want to put in an ASSIST to have your specific weapon looked at.

That ought not make a difference, though: the runestaff is in fact a 2-Hand weapon... just with an even worse DF (across the board) than the already-sucky quarterstaff.

@BBRODRIGUEZ - Executioner's Stance is a Martial Stance. You can only have one of these active at a time. Make sure you type CMAN EXECUTIONER to activate this stance and then don't activate some other stance (which would disable this one) if you want to utilize this one.

If you have done all of the above and it still is not working for you then I would definitely suggest putting in an ASSIST to have your weapon looked at. The skill itself appears to be working fine with both quarter staves and runestaves (at least from my testing).

The third bandit in the last group was a pain, constantly blocking, evading and parrying normal attacks like a pro. I had to resort to hiding and waylaying him. No other creatures were in the room so it didn't matter how I killed him since executioner's stance wouldn't trigger anyway.

That's pretty much how my bandit hunts go. Take a few shots, dish out punishment, get all my kills, but I never see excutioner's stance trigger. 20% chance to trigger isn't that high, but I should have seen it trigger at least once.

My understanding is that there are zero prerequisite to using the stance, so it shouldn't require any other specific cman to be trained in for it to work.

Re: Executioner's Stance - buggy or unlucky? 12/23/2021 07:56 PM CST
The stance itself is definitely working with a quarter staff weapon base (my test weapon was found in the treasure system.)

If you want to test further, go to a swarmy low level area and just swing away with both 1) your weapon and 2) an alternate generic quarter staff (the rabid squirrels outside of Icemule are a great choice - just stand there for a minute or two and they will be everywhere). You are welcome to borrow the one I used for my testing since we KNOW it works. It won't take that many swings to confirm 1) it works for you with a different quarter staff 2) it does/does not work for your specific weapon.

With or without the above, I would definitely assist to have your weapon looked at. Maybe when it was built someone forget to set a flag on the item or something that prevents it from working correctly with the stance. I've definitely run into this issue with perfect weapons, for example, where they look perfect but they actually have multiple flags and if one is not set correctly they don't actually provide the benefit / work correctly with things like loresong.

Another alternative might be that something is corrupt / not kicking in for your character so the stance isn't turning on. The testing suggested above will validate that as well.

Best of luck on getting the issue resolved and feel free to PM me if you do want to borrow my test quarter staff (or look for Faulkil in-game, he is frequently around during the weekends).

I wandered around the area in Solhaven with mongrel trolls, forest trolls, greater orcs and coyotes.
I dragged along a couple other bodies with me to get it really busy.
I went through and killed around 40 creatures using my translucent vultite-alloy quarterstaff and not once did Exectioner's Stance trigger when there were 2-4 other creatures in the room.

I put in bug report on the weapon saying it does not work with Executioner's Stance.

Hopefully someone will get into looking at it and get it resolved.

I bugged my weapon in game back on the 25th (yep, Holidays and all probably got things on the backburner so I understand) and I'm just curious if I should patiently wait for a fix to come through or if I should do an assist in game and request a GM to look at my weapon?

I have registered it and as I said, bugged it saying that the weapon is not triggering with Executioner's Stance.

Or, if it something you can't fix, can I get a CM fixskill? I only have a couple points tied up and sure, it wouldn't take that long to untrain, but I'd rather not have to slowly wait for the cman points to untrain.

Just looking for some direction on this issue.

Thanks.

So, anyone had a chance to see why my translucent vultite-alloy quarterstaff does not trigger Executioner's Stance?

I don't have time to stand around all day hoping for a GM to pop in to test my weapon if I were to put in another assist. My game time wanes and I don't want to waste it hoping someone that's in the know is around to check things out. I've registered it (it is the MCW one, but I've taken this one to 8x and add grapple flares) around the time I started this topic. It shouldn't be hard to find, I would think, if it needs to be looked at.

I know the issue is not resolved because I went through and kicked the crap out of some creatures and bandits today and Excetioner's Stance is still not triggering with this THW.

In fact, I'll help a little.

I'm checking to see if a player forged perfect razern quarterstaff works with EC or not....

Oh, look...it does! This happened after the 5th kill with multiple creatures in a room.
>at tro
You swing a perfect razern quarterstaff at a mongrel troll!
AS: +287 vs DS: +85 with AvD: +24 + d100 roll: +91 = +317
... and hit for 100 points of damage!
Vertebrae in neck disintegrate from impact!
Neck sinks into shoulders.
The mongrel troll falls to the ground with a thud.
The deep blue glow leaves a mongrel troll.
Barely breaking your momentum, you continue on to attack a greater orc!
You swing a perfect razern quarterstaff at a greater orc!
AS: +262 vs DS: +82 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +67 = +272
... and hit for 42 points of damage!
Shot to the neck scrapes away skin.
Some nasty bleeding.
The greater orc is stunned!
Roundtime: 4 sec.

I then went through with my translucent vultite-alloy quarterstaff and killed 30+ creatures when multiple creatures were in the room and EC stance would not trigger.

So, the issue clearly isn't the weapon base of quarterstaff, but it certainly is an issue with my weapon. Can this please be looked at and fixed? Or do I have to spend copious amounts of money at DR to get this fixed?

I apologize if I sound perturbed, but I'd really like to make use of the game systems as they were designed.

Do you have a a current assist or referral in on this? If not, please put one in and ask the responding person to check if it’s properly flagged as a twohanded weapon. That can cause this issue if it’s not. This is something that can only be fixed by a GM in a live manner.
