So I saw both of these, in game, as a warrior mage. I wish I had the artistic streak to animate them...

You manage to channel most of your energy into the spell. The rest is wasted.
A lance of silvery-blue light forms between your hands. Turning slightly, you throw the lance at a bull shark!
The beam of energy pierces its forehead, shattering its skull and causing scream and shards of glistening snout to fly from its ears!
A bull shark gives a final lunge, its teeth snapping mere inches from your skin, then shudders and turns belly up, biting in vain at anything within reach until it ceases all movement.
