Can we please have this fixed so you can CAST when things/people are hidden and engaged with you again? Having to cast area kind of sucks. Thanks.

Doesn't work when the target is in hiding. You used to be able to just CAST and if anything was engaged with you it would cast anyway. (Like most other AOEs do)

Yeah it's really buggy and annoying.
I'm glad when there's a bug with our spells that makes it advantageous to us there's a team of GMs all over it but when there's something that works to our disadvantage its ignored for years.

Trying to out-cry the warrior mages in their own folders has got to be the stupidest thing you could possibly think about doing.
It's like peeing on yourself to establish dominance.
Anyway, I was under the assumption that Chain Lightning's issues mostly stemmed from the swamp that is the engagement system, not from core Magic? In any event everything related to this is being thrown out the window and rewritten.

This isn't a CL issue. Like I said, same thing happens with some other AOE spells.
Does the cast (yourname) thing seriously not work or did you just not try it? Last I knew it worked just fine.

Correct, the targeting issue has to do with core mechanics, it was not an intentional nerf to the spell.
I'm just not convinced that this type of situation is at all unique to warrior mages. Consider the ranger spell Blend, for example.

>>to bypass the perception contest
I'm going to rant on concept, not the technical nature. This is a rant.
Perception contest is a series of logical nightmares. Where DO you go to hide in the Gondola? How does hiding at melee allow you to not get hit by many melee based spells? (Because I don't remember which DR spells go which way I'll cite a spell that doesn't exist. I'm walking along and I see a Wall of Fire some sorcerer put up. I need to get through there! I'll just hide and walk through it so nothing can happen to me!)
I'm not proposing a solution, that is hard. I am saying that just cause you are in hiding, YOU ARE NOT INVINCIBLE! If that is your expectation, you and I have a completely different view on how the systems should be set up.
As to Chain Lightning, you don't control the targets, the lightning seems to pick them. Does the lightning have the same perception as you to be able to pick its targets? How does it recognize an enemy vs a chair? Or even a dummy? Do you subconsciously influence your lightning, in which case why does the lightning pick the targets at random as opposed to in order of danger? Why can't, at a high level of training, you pick your multiple targets? Does the lightning even use perception or is there some other force guiding it?
If you think the complaints about CL are bad, I would LOVE to see the complaints that would come about if the GMs proposed a Hiding (Version+1).0. If you think we whine and cry about changes to one of our spells, the gigantic scream that would come from the change to a single skill would have me LOLing for weeks.

Yeah, I wasn't saying hiders should be invincible. I was saying it's hilarious to see warrior mage complaining about a missile range stealth-ignoring lighting-based AoE. I would disagree, but even so, look at YS as an example. Even if the stealth hindrance wasn't a bug, per se, I doubt the spell designer intended to let an armor tertiary guild hide in full plate armor as though he or she were unarmored.
The intention was to point out that there have been many bugs or unintended or over-powered benefits that worked out in WM's favor through the years just as their have been design oversights or bugs which worked against them. Concluding that the GMs somehow have a hidden agenda to make sure bugs don't work out in the guild's favor is just obtuse and silly.

Was written in a time where it made sense. In the same sense where you could speak in hiding and have no chance of that revealing your hiding spot. The concept of noise did not play a factor in stealth. So if you can move as if you were not wearing armor, why wouldn't you be able to hide as if you were not?
Same can be applied to many other spells/abilities in all guilds.
DR is an ever changing game.

Game balance rest in the hands of whoever has an opinion. If everyone was given a stick and stripped of all abilities and magics. Someone would find something to complain about. It would really be great if more focus could be on the game itself instead of measuring sticks.

Funny, I hear an awful lot of whining about balance when Barbarian stuff is brought up over in those folders, but when the topic is warrior mages getting to wear the best armor without the associated penalties, it's suddenly not about measuring sticks.

And someone almost always responds with something to the effect of "go back to your own folders and suggest something to improve your guild". Not that that is a problem, but if it bothers you when others do it in your folders, don't expect others to be okay with it in theirs.

This wasn't about a suggestion, this was me reminding a warrior mage to take game balance into consideration and him responding with "you shouldn't worry about game balance so much".
After seeing more than a fair share of good Barbarian suggestions and current abilities complained about due to them being perceived as imbalanced I can't help but point out the hypocrisy.

Personally, I'm trilled that "Barb Magic" is becoming Barb Magic. It will be nice to see us all playing on the same plane and have our abilities adjusted in unison to something roughly equivalent, given our particular focus.
This left chain lightning a minute ago but I think I'll bring it back by adding, and I don't mean to cite real abilities or attacks if I am, a Barbarian's whirlwind (sword spinning in a +360 deg) attack should hit enemies in hiding, just as I'd expect War Mage AOE type spells to hit hidden enemies appropriately, ignoring hiding if it is appropriate.
I'd also like to see some type of ear muffs, or even air bubble, dampen the effects of roars, Thunderclap and screams. Please note, I said dampen not prevent, like a sonic version of ES for instance.

It never made sense, actually. Plate armor was designed to hinder stealth heavily; mechanically it was (IIRC) simply dealth with by tying stealth hindrance to general hindrance.
While Warrior Mages have a general focus on using their magic to augment their combat performance - warriors as well as mages - they do not have any specific focus in either armor or stealth, and one spell made them better at this than both Paladins and Thieves.
Doesn't make sense, regardless of how you spin it. Again, I can hardly speak for someone who designed a spell years ago, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't intended that Warrior Mages wear plate armor and hide perfectly while enveloped in their gigantic ball of flame.

I didn't say they had a hidden agenda, but recently some WMs started a thread about Rimefang and VOI. Ok great, it's a bug lets fix it. Few days later Armifer does that, and a lot more and now rimefang or DB regardless if cast before you're HULPd become useless.
He never offers explanation of why this change as well.
This CL bug has been known for years, someone pointed out it's not even a CL only bug so it's not like Wythor is the only one that can fix it. I'm just pissed he changed one thing and not the other, despite the one being a problem for a lot longer.

People who eat cake every night often forget that its cake and not meant to be eaten whenever you feel the munchies.
People who eat cake every night also complain a lot if you suddenly give them bread.
In general, for every guild any bug that gives them an unfair advantage will be squashed quickly. This is not a WM thing. Again, bugs, not abilities.
The bug with chain lightning is not a magic bug, its an engagement and combat system bug that is currently under rewrite. It is far more difficult to fix than you think. There is also a work around to it, so its priority is low.

Neither of these things reflects reality. Things get fixed depending on how difficult they are to fix, balance- and even game-breaking bugs get ignored for years with little post-its on them saying 'don't touch.' People post the same complaints every few weeks even when there are 'known issues' list posted somewhere.

I'm not arguing that the thread spawned from malice directed at WMs. I'm bitching about the CL bug not being fixed while the pulse spell bug resulted in a major nerf to some of our spells, and that was done in like 3 days.

It's not a CL bug.

Ok sorry, the engagement system and combat bug, that mainly effects CL.

I would argue that it mainly affects TKS.
Perspective is funny!

It sure would suck if any of MY abilities had to be used on the whole room in order to affect hiders...
Oh wait...

How does it mainly affect TKS when you don't need a target to cast TKS?

As of a few months ago if someone is engaged with you and hidden and you try to just CAST, it won't work and it'll act like you do need a target.
It's very broken. I also haven't tried it recently so I guess I'll go do that to make sure I remember it right.
