When my dog does that, I assume he materialized in the area slightly off the ground and plopped down, but I think I like your idea better. :o

I very much enjoy the more unusual familiar summons and banishments! My favorite is probably vomiting your familiar up, and the bear suit.

Hear hear! As the mundane pet releases get cooler and cooler (I lost track of how many outfits I've tried on my piglet... :x), I think familiars could stand a little more emphasis on their innate Aethereal weirdness to keep 'em special.
