Grandmaster's Lockpicks 06/25/2016 12:36 PM CDT
So I know lockpick carving will be moving to tinkering in the near future, and i've been working on trying to get my full name carved into a pick before the current system goes away. Does anyone have an idea of what kind of skill this requires? I'm currently able to initial every grandmaster I make, and have 60 agility and almost 400 Locksmithing.

Isn't it just a random chance to get either?

Well, I have initialed over 60 grandmaster's in a row now, so if it's random i guess i'd better go buy a lotto ticket

I don't think it is ever guaranteed even if you have the skill to do it which is what they were likely referring to when they said it was random. All that your 60 attempts with only initials indicates is that you don't have the skill to start getting that chance.

I'm nowhere close to having enough to be able to do it myself, but based on the chart on elantipedia I would hazard a guess around the 500 to 600 ranks mark.

I've gotten full name every (maybe 1 in 20?) since about 600 locks. Agility matters as well but I believe it's a "Do you have enough" check verses a "this adds to your total" check. The test I'm referring to for that was done many years ago now though so it may have changed.

If anyone else is trying to carve their full name into a lockpick before lockpicks become part of engineering...

60 Agility, 431 Locksmithing, 401 Engineering, 103 Mechanical Lore

when I first carved my full name into a grandmaster's iron lockpick.
