But apparently sending thugs after a non thief teaching stealing right in the middle of the trader bazaar gets you called a liar and your tongue cut out. Although perhaps I used the wrong thug option?

the "thug" option only works on if a non-thief stole from you. not if they are teaching the skill.

If you are going to damn yourself, my child, you might as well do it all the way.
