This.
I would also like to see the facepalm verb expanded to include a double facepalm, usable when grouped or with some kind of cooperative acceptance and messaging system.
Caelumia gives you "that look". Do you want to facepalm with her? Type facepalm in the next 5 seconds to confirm.

Because sometimes it's necessary for a whole room of people to facepalm in unison. It seriously is.

Slap self does basically the same thing.
You slap your forehead!
At least for the basic facepalm.

Palm held centered over mouth or thereabouts, fingers splayed over the general eye area, head tilted down and shaking slightly is what I picture. Its body language is mildly saying 'What an idiot' about someone else. Forehead slapping is a visual, self-directed 'D'oh!'
On that note...

I'd never realized the ambiguity until the facepalm request threads, but I've always slapped my forehead (and kept my hand there) to express violent dismay somewhere in the continuity of violent expressions of dismay: headdesk, facewall, facefault.
Now I don't know what people are thinking when my character slaps her forehead. It's very distressing.

I bet it's a regional thing. People here will smack their foreheads too rather than put their actual face in their palms.

For me it's always been a hand to my face with the index finger going along the top of my brow, covering my eyes and a gentle shake of the head with a sigh. I've never slapped myself. I'm from the west coast. My boyfriend also does it almost the same and he's from the southern midwest.

Instead of facepalming, I just call people stupid.

Same here, and I'm from the northeast. I notice people on the west coast do it too.
