"I'm no Superman" a.k.a. the theme song for Scrubs. I like the use of the banjo; it's sorta The Kinks meet the California sound.

This was at the top of my "most played" for a long time when it was introduced to me by a friend who used it as the theme song for her Exalted character (big fan of theme songs for capturing the "feel" of characters). Since she's due to release a new album, it -- along with the rest of the 'Lungs' album -- has crept back up onto that list.

I literally haven't heard a bad song from her, and I have high hopes for the new album.

I've been sitting on this for awhile, but tonight I'm searching for something to occupy my mind.
About a year ago there was a thread digression in the Necromancer folder about "Necromancer songs." I came away from that thread with the horrifying realization that anything that involved heavy metal or references to eeevil spoke to people about the Necromancers.
In the hopes of both exposing people to good music and perhaps touch on a slightly more nuanced presentation for the audiophiles, I present my Necromancer playlist. Instrumental pieces appear when the original context of the piece was relevant. The tone of some pieces may seem unintuitive to their attributed ideology; that's probably intentional.

In the interests of representing the classics, here are some pieces i think are fairly representative - for the 3 streams of necromancy.
Perserve:
Night on Bald Mountain - Mussorgsky
Danz Macabre - Saint-Saens
Mephisto Waltz - Franz Liszt
Philosopher:
Das Lied von der Erde - Mahler
Syphony # 2-the age of Anxiety - Leonard Bernstein
Redeemed:
Belshazzar's Feast- Walton
Sypmhony #3 <kaddish> - Leonard Bernstein
Necromancy provides the only source of reliable and potent life extension on Elanthia.

"Hocus Pocus" by Focus.

Mostly the bit from 0:55-1:10 or so, but really the whole song kinda fits my own mental concept of the guild.

Thank you for the recommendation list, GM Armifer, I have only heard of one of the bands with several songs listed. Pink Floyd, which has a reputation as being favored in the drug community, however their music is interesting. I am not so much into heavy metal in general, I will try to give suggestions a listen anyway.
Neoclassical is more my taste, out of everything listed, maybe the gothic metal stuff a lil, but that is the sort of thing I probably shouldn't be listening to, even though I tend to do that.
-Armifer says consequences are how we honor evil roleplaying.
-Abasha says, "Personally, I love supporting evil characters, but not if they can't take their lumps too.
-Quarel says, "Not me I hit you because I like to hit."

I haven't heard some of the stuff on your list, so thanks for giving me something to look into. I can comment on what I am familiar with, though:
<<Philosophers:
<<Aerosmith - Dream On
Have to agree with that choice. The second half of the song is slightly less fitting, but the first two verses especially are spot on.
<<Bear McCreasy - All Along the Watchtower (Battlestar Galactica: Season 3)
I am curious why you chose this cover of the song, instead of Jimi Hendrix (or even the U2 cover)?
<<Iron Maiden - The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg (The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg)
I hadn't this before, though I expected some Iron Maiden on the list. Why no "Number of the Beast"? (Given the fevered dream, etc..)
<<Pink Floyd - Hey You (The Wall)
This is a great song, but it seems more like it ought to be part of the Philosopher Membership Drive
<<The Transcendant:
<<Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away (A Momentary Lapse of Reason)
One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, I had to listen to this again with the 'lens' of the Necromancer to see how it fit. How incredibly applicable! The entire song fits, but most especially, "We could find that we're all alone / In the dream of the proud"
<<"Hocus Pocus" by Focus.
<<~player of Gulphphunger
Ha! Excellent
My picks:
Perverse:
White Zombie - More Human Than Human
Godsmack - I Stand Alone (Maybe this should fit with Philosophers, too?)
Philosphers:
Ozzy Osbourne - Not Going Away
Disturbed - Liberate
Redeemed:
White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Audioslave - What You Are You

>>I am curious why you chose this cover of the song, instead of Jimi Hendrix (or even the U2 cover)?
I genuinely enjoy the pesudo-Persian sound the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack had going on. That particular cover also has an intense edge to it that seemed more appropriate in this context than the Hendrix rendition.
>>I hadn't this before, though I expected some Iron Maiden on the list. Why no "Number of the Beast"? (Given the fevered dream, etc..)
A bit too "Rawr Evil" for my tastes. With the exception if the TSO offering, which has particularly relevant context (the entire rock opera is awesome and thematically appropriate for any story about immortality) the Perverse list was picked to consciously go down a different course than something blatantly demonic.
>>One of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, I had to listen to this again with the 'lens' of the Necromancer to see how it fit. How incredibly applicable! The entire song fits, but most especially, "We could find that we're all alone / In the dream of the proud"
I stand by all three songs in that section. But I'm going to digress momentarily. There's a game called The Void. Something from it made my very short list of songs to listen to when contemplating the sublime. This by itself should be a little telling.
It's about a lost soul who finds itself caught, briefly, in a transient afterlife. The Void hovers just above Absolute Death, where souls fall into final dissolution and nothingness. Only by consuming what little seeds of life exist in the Void -- the Color -- can the soul survive for another minute or hour. The soul must struggle to find Color in an endless famine, and to chase after the tiny hope that it can change its fate and reclaim the life that it lost.
The Void is not for everybody; there's quite a few people who flat out wouldn't understand the story it tries to tell or care about the content matter if they can. But if you want to take a look at a crushingly serious story about death and transcendence, set in one of the most achingly beautiful games I've ever seen, take a look at The Void.

The Void game is kind of interesting, it would probably be easier to navigate with a console controller, though. I just started it yesterday, since GM Armifer recommended it.
It also seems to me, some people's real lives are similar to this premise, a bleak and desolate environment, while nearly everyone they encounter seems bent on snatching away the scarce elements which make existence semi-enjoyable, or at least tolerable.
-Armifer says consequences are how we honor evil roleplaying.
-Abasha says, "Personally, I love supporting evil characters, but not if they can't take their lumps too.

That is one hell of an excellent playlist! I especially like the TSO and pink Floyd Pics!
I've seen TSO every time they came through phoenix, and though Pink Floyd wasn't touring when I was old enough to see them, I've seen Roger Waters several times (I know its not the same...but...as close as I could get!)
Again, excellent playlist, for any purpose :)

Man I love TSO too. Went to one of their New Years Eve concerts a few years back and it was amazing. It was about 5 hours long and Tommy Shaw from Styx came out at the end and did some songs. Seen them three time now.

Awesome. One of the shows I did as a DJ at my college radio station was a One-Hit Wonder Day, and they were on the playlist, along with Zager and Evans, Spiral Staircase, and The Five Stairsteps, all of whom have great and sometimes campy tunes. I don't remember who else I ended up playing, but I always have a special place in my heart for ? and the Myserians.

Yes. It always is.
Posting actual claims of being the highest circle/skills ends up with threats to remove you for being off topic.
This folder is a hold out from the old java - pre web migration DR boards and a tradition started by players back then. Anything goes within policy; not DR related; No conflicts.
...and then the music started.
