Haha - yep you won. :)

Trying to handle it gracefully. Not easy.

Lets hope everybody can find a way to play nice this time - otherwise the consequences are gonna have even more tangible effects.

Lol. :-P

Probably wont be seeing a current GOPer in the WH in the next few elections without a big change in the party. Good luck with that sir.

Yeah they are gonna have to figure out a way to appeal to something other than white males & married women. Maybe Rubio can garner some support from the hispanic community - or maybe they can figure out a way to maintain the conservative vote but stop trying to legislate religious dogma - that stuff may have worked 200 years ago, but today's voter is just not interested. In any event you are right on one point for sure: its time to seriously consider & adjust for the changing demographic in the electorate.

FUN FACT: If 20% of the people who voted for Obama in 2008 but DIDN'T vote for him in 2012 had voted for Romney, you would be watching MY VIDEO right now :)

200? Try 20-50. Post-Nixon, the republicans (re: gingrich, limbaugh, etc) spent a LOT of money CREATING the idea of the "religious right." It worked wonders for Reagan, both Bushes, and a plethora of congressional and state elections.

The trouble is, christians (at least the ones foolish enough to vote based on what someone else tells them jeebus wants) are no longer a "silent majority". The silent majority now is disenfranchised youth who are buried in unconscionably rising education costs, hispanics whose family members may be deported at any moment, and people who for one reason or another don't want racism and sexism written into the law books.

Once the GOP kicks out the likes of Phelps, Limbaugh, Bachmann, and people whose sole purpose is MOAR MONY 4 ME AT EXPENSE OF EVRY1!!!!!, then they'll have a chance at an the white house. I mean, come on. the GOP USED to be the rational party. sigh.

Also, END CORPORATE PERSONHOOD!

Ok. that's my 2 cents on the GOP.

I think this is misinformed - you have to understand that when this country was founded the electorate didn't have access to every piece of information on earth in real time - they still believed that 'god punished the wicked', and until the baby boomer generation has completely dissipated from American society, the 'religious right' has and will continue to be a voting force in American society. It wasn't until recently that the scale tipped the other way (recently being a relative term - remember that since the 60s there have pretty much been an even number of D & R in the WhiteHouse), and while the "get your religion out of my bedroom" movement has validity & is picking up steam, it doesn't automatically invalidate the entirety of the opposition's point of view.

Liberals won handily in the electoral college, but won the popular vote by right around 3 million, which as a percentage of the electorate is really only barely tipping the scales. Democrats need to keep this in mind while they are speculating on the future of the GOP, and they better SERIOUSLY hope and pray that their guy can pull this off - because if he can't they are going to get their behinds handed to them again in 2014. In 2016 they will not enjoy the benefit of incumbency or the convenience of the Bush scapegoat.

"CREATING the idea of the "religious right.""

It can be comforting to attribute the origin of the vocal religious faction(s) in our political discourse to some kind of cynical group of political agents. However, don't forget that the U.S. has been swept up in quite a few major nation-wide religious revivals in the past two centuries, and participation in organized religion remains a major facet of many demographic groups on both the left and right sides of the political spectrum.

Much has been made of the importance of the latin-american vote carrying this election on behalf of the "liberal" party. The countries/societies these people have emigrated from are devoutly Catholic, and in the future it may be the left pushing a religious perspective on 'secular' policies and issues as well as the right. The future is more complicated than we think.
