Vampires, Liches & Being Undead 12/18/2015 08:17 PM CST
This isn't a race per say but many of the qualities that are attributed to a race fits this archetype, thus I'm putting it here. So, the question goes has becoming a vampire or lich or other undead as a player character ever been suggested? And what does everyone think about the idea?

Before everyone starts pointing at me and shout "power gamer"! That's hardly the case, rather this is more RP related then anything, with the mechanics to back up/give weight to the RP. A vampire would probably have a considerable LOSS of power rather then any gain on balance due to the significant disadvantages to the "race". For instance,

Vampire:

Cons:

1.) Takes 15%~33% of fire damage(non regenerative)per 5 seconds when outdoors in sunlight.
2.) Cleric spells have double the harmful effects.
3.) Must return to home province to rest or begin to lose stamina (until 0)
4.) Outcast in all civilized areas, as soon as you are detected the town guards/npcs will attack immediately. You are subject to player attacks at anytime.
5.) Instant favorless depart after death; all items will be dropped at location.

Pros:

1.) Effective strength is doubled. If under info you have 50 strength it is considered to be 100 for all calculations that require strength. Supernatural strength can exceed the normal stat maximums.
2.) Mist form - Can pass through locked doors or "climb" barricades or walls with no checks required. Not able to be hit with normal weapons. Name hidden (invisible), although your form will be apparent in monster boldface if the weather and conditions of the room clash with mist-like attributes.
3.) Unnatural healing - Regenerate bloodloss at double the rate. Wounds also disappear over time depending on the severity.
4.) Wolf/Bat form- Can take the form of a wolf and bat with the gain of some minor mechanical benefits (claws and bite attack during melee combat), inability to be engaged at all during bat form(in-flight).
5.) Bite attack - once grappled the vampire can drain the blood from a victim transfering his life into him at a 1:4 rate and significantly increasing his physical stats.

OK, so whatcha all think?

Lichdom is presently planned as a very high level (100? 150?) path for Necromancers.

You might be interested in knowing that lichdom is one of the three advanced states for Necromancers. (These states are still in development.)

So the lesson here is that Necromancers get all the cool stuff. Read that whole thing, whoever created the Necromancer guild is a genius, it's got so much flavoring in a cool anti-social way. Must be a absolute joy to build and play a Necro. A stark contrast to the other end of the spectrum... Barbarians. "So, um, uh... Hulk smash!"
