I will have to see if I can manage it- 9 p.m. EST is 6 p.m. PST which is kind of hard for me to swing. But I would like to get together with Dwarves again.

Dwarven Social, Design your own Ale Contest 07/09/2009 02:36 PM CDT
So at the last social I asked if folks if they would be interested in a Design your Own Ale Contest, and of course they said yes.

So the Rules are simple, first you must be Dwarven. Second you just need to come up with the TAP, LOOK, COMPLEX TASTE, SIMPLE TASTE, and special BREWING PROCESS (if any). It doesn’t have to be just an Ale, it can be a Beer, Whiskey, Grog, Lager, or what have you. You can enter as many entries as you want, you just need to have everything in before the final Dwarven Social of this month (July 30th), by midnight.

The TAP- needs to be short and to the point;
The LOOK- needs to be kept around three sentences;
The COMPLEX TASTE- this can be as long as you want it to be, but try to keep it under two paragraphs;
The SIMPLE TASTE- simply put is a list of singular descriptive words
The special BREWING PROCESS- This can be as long as you want.

Here are some examples for you to look at.

Tap: a hollowed gnarled root of Deathadder’s Ale
Look: Opaque darkness pools deeply in the root, it’s amazingly thick and slick. Occasionally it bubbles up an even darker foamy head that lets off a mysteriously palled red smoke.

Complex Taste: Poison! Your throat constricts as your sight goes black for a moment, something scaly slithers out of the root and down into your gullet. The ale has a deep dark taste that at times is overpowered by the brimstone like fumes that pour out of the root. You taste what hopefully is coal tar, which is almost masked by the myriad of other taste floating around in the liquid. A bit of ash, alder charcoal, fine granite gravel, bits of mushrooms, and a pinch of powdered cambrinth make up the bulk of the taste. In the background you taste several unidentifiable substances that can only be described as venomous.
Simple Taste: Poisonous, mysterious, venomous;

Tap: a giant snail shell of dark mountain bitters
Look: Dark brown, almost black, revealing deep crimson highlights that fill the spiraling white shell. Fine grained red salt encrusts the lip of the shell.
Complex Taste: Strong and heavy, the taste is enough to fight back the coldest wind. You manage to sort out in the liquid the taste of winter apples, winter oats, and sour cherries.
Simple taste: Bitter, Strong, Earthy.

Tap: a barrel of Skegikmewr Ale
Look: A small barrel has been outfitted with a loose leather strap for a handle and filled to the brim with ale.
Complex Taste: The distinct taste of thick blood orange and walnuts burst through at first, after a bit the overwhelming taste of sour black apples and lemons, hits your taste buds.
Taste: Sour, Strong, Thick, Hearty

If you win, first prize will be your Ale is made for real, and put on the drink table used at the Dwarven Social. You’ll also get a custom flask that you can keep filled with your newly brewed drink. Second and third prize will receive just the Flask.

Dwarven Social Beard Jewelry Contest! 03/05/2010 12:59 AM CST
Dwarven Social Beard Jewelry Contest!

Examples…

>tap guard
You tap a green nightsilk beard guard strung on a thin animite chain that you are wearing.

a heavy silver nose and beard guard with a detailed illustration

A series of box-woven silver chain links connect the nose guard to the beard guard on either side. Etched into the bright metal is a detailed depiction of a Dwarven woman tucking her beard into a cover for safety.

tap beads
You tap a string of highly polished silver beads shaped like ravens that you are holding.
>l beads
Ideally worn in a beard, these beads have been cast and shaped to represent ravens in flight and then threaded onto a loose coil of silver strands. Each end of the string is curled to catch either hair or the other end of the strand. Stamped on the underbelly of one of the raven beads is a minute letter "M."

They can be anything from beads, to bones, to a simple wrap to a full blown beard guard. Your design must not be anything specific to you, as the winning entry will be made up and put into a gift crate, for everyone that comes to get.

Rules: You must have a Dwarven Character.

Look description must be under 350 characters, must be worn on the neck, or nose… yes nose.

The look must appear to entangle the beard in some way or cover it. (You can’t actually wear something on your beard so the illusion it is just on there is important)

No rare materials, such things that you’d have to supply for an alteration.

You have till March 26th, 12pm EST to send it in, send all entries to orrj@play.net , please put in the subject Dwarven Social Beard Jewelry Contest, all entries without this will not be considered. In the Body of the email please include your Dwarven Characters name.

Winners!

1st:Sortny
tap: a string of hematite drusy skeg gimren carved into ravens-in-flight (translation beard beads)

Look: Designed to be fastened around the neck, the three layers of beads will drape over the beard, reflecting the crystal strewn surface in any available light. Each raven has been cut and shaped to show a different side of the wing-in-flight pattern.

2nd: Kraggur
tap: a bone and mikkalbamar beard guard

look: Thin bone slices are cunningly inlaid into the mikkhalbamar, forming a grim deaths head mask where the upper lip and lower face are covered. Holes have been neatly drilled below the bone, allowing for the guard to be woven into a beard in a variety of decorative patterns.

3rd: Sortny
tap: a long bleached linen skeg hliwa embroidered with a dinner scene

Look: The material is long enough to accommodate the length of the beard with ties to encircle the back of the neck. Embroidered across the fabric is a family of Dwarves seated before a sumptuous dinner table wearing fabric that cover their beards before eating.

Congrats Sortny! Twice over :)

Moon Mages who get hit with HULP should indulge in their Survival Secondary side and run away.
