Plate armor for the neck 05/31/2015 09:11 AM CDT
I am new to the game in case it isn't obvious. I was looking for some tips on what armor to wear. I currently wear half plate, visored helm for plate gear. for chain gear I wear chain gloves, greaves, and aventail. I was thinking I would like to go full plate armor but am having trouble finding affordable field plate but I am working on that. I have found that a shop in haven sells plate gauntlets but I can not find plate neck protection. I guess I am asking is there a plate helm that also protects the neck or is there a plate aventail or equivalent piece of armor and is going Plate only advisable.

Kill them ALL the Gods already sorted them!

It's in your best interest from a training standpoint to wear every single armor. As a moon mage I wear a plate barbute (which protects only the head), a wool mask (light armor eye protection), a brigandine aventail (neck protection), chain gloves (hands) and light armor body armor. As a paladin you probably want plate body armor. You have a lot of different choices as far as individual pieces of armor for armor mixing. Some people carry multiple greaves and just switch out greaves midcombat to learn different armor types. You have almost as many choices as parts of the body for mixing armor.

This link can make shopping in Player Owned Trader shops easier - use the spreadsheet to find you're looking for. http://www.elanthia.org/TraderShops/

You can also use these two links to search for armor that exists ingame: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Special:RunQuery/ArmorQuery

and this one to see what your options are through forging: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Armorsmithing_products

Wearing multiple armor types at once yields an armor mixing penalty. You'll experience greater hinderance that might make combat more dangerous. Paladins can eventually negate this penalty so it's one more reason for them to mix armors. You also reap more TPDs for greater stat builds from training every armor vs one or two armors. Check out this link:

You could also make an RP choice to only wear plate and/or chain (which is also a viable choice) but you'll be giving up versatility and lots of TDPs.

I second the 'Paladins are best off wearing all armors', the simple reason is, armor is your primary skill set.

This means you get the most bang for your buck from training all of it. More TDPs, etc. And there's no reason not to, since armor is purely passive.

Now: an ideal armor set up varies from person to person, but what I like is:

Half plate (crossings): abdomen, back, arms, etc.
Greaves form Knife clan (link below): legs
Chain gloves (crossings): hands
Brig Barrel helm (Haven): head, eyes, neck

Total cost is a few gold. I suggest the greaves from knife clan because they have surprisingly good stats for shop gear, and they're cheap. I'd also suggest the targe from knife clan; it's small and blows a target shield out of the water, great for all guilds.

Since a Paladin is unlikely to do stealth, I prefer putting the lightest armor on my legs, then keeping hand and head (parts which if hit hard will cause stuns/deaths) more heavily armored.

I'm also lazy, and don't really like the 'I have 405392365 pieces of armor, one for every possible slot' so I just use as few pieces as possible to cover everything.

Unless you are in a PvP situation there is no reason (outside of RP) to wear just plate. As all the others have said, wear all 4 armors at once.

If you find me in game (Lennon) I offer the following deals for Paladins:

1) I will make you whatever armor setup you wish out of steel for free, provided you spend the time with me in the forge making it. The forge is a lonely place...But it's more along the lines of it gives you time to ask question and me to try to mentor you some.

2) I will make you whatever armor setup you wish out of rarer materials (lumium on up) for the cost of the materials plus tip. For a complete set of lumium this usually runs between 100-150 plat depending on exactly what it is you want made. The amount of tip is up to you on a sliding scale (What you can afford and what you think my time is worth. Any tip is appreciated so don't worry about insulting me). You do not need to be present for this, but it might be something you wish to do for the reason outlined above.

Due to a recent kerfuffle that cost me nearly 1k in materials all my armor now comes stamped with my mark (posted below in my signature). If you don't like my mark or don't want it, then find someone else to do the work.
