HI Airoza,

I was looking at your post in bugs when we were speaking of horses and took Tempest out today to see if could get her to show in combat.

I can her to show up at missle but then disapears when at melee

here is the log:
signal horse charge pec
A gold-colored horse turns to face a small peccary.

You assess your combat situation...

You (solidly balanced) are facing a small peccary (1) at melee range.
A small peccary (1: nimbly balanced) is advancing on you at missile range.
A gold-colored horse (1: off balance) is behind a small peccary (1) at missile range.

then check combat again and

You assess your combat situation...

You (solidly balanced) are facing a small peccary (1) at melee range.
A small peccary (1: nimbly balanced) is facing you at melee range.

Ok so I wonder what is different here.

I am mounted.
I retreat to pole then signal the charge.
I stay mounted.

I have not tried to face my horse at all, or done any of those sort of tricks.

OH the combat signals I have are:
Combat:
SIGNAL HORSE TO RETREAT
SIGNAL HORSE TO CHARGE <player|creature>

So what is different should I be able to see her in combat
Thanks for the feedback

Hi Wodie,
Does this happen every time? In other words, does your horse ever show up in melee range at all?

If Tempest doesn't show up ever at melee, I'm not sure why that would be. I know the system isn't perfect, and I don't even know why our horses are showing up at all in assess now whereas they didn't use to show up unless we "advanced" them first.

Max does show up in melee, but I don't think he does 100% of the time. I do a lot of retreat and advancing, but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. I've logged out now, but next time I'm in, I'll take a closer look at Max and see if I can detect any differences in his missile and melee assessments. I'm trying to remember from earlier tonight when we were hunting, and I know that sometimes after a charge, he'll be at missile and sometimes he'll be at melee, but I wasn't paying a lot of attention as to how often or what the difference may be. I'll look tomorrow and let you know if I see anything funny.

I don't think it makes any difference at all that you don't have the "attack" command or bond yet. I never use it, or rarely, anyway, so I don't think it makes any difference to your assess.

Yeah happens all the time.

I have not tried advancing him in a while, but it was the same then as well.

Starting to wonder if I should bug this.

Wodie, I'm with Max in Haven trolls and he sometimes goes to melee and sometimes only to missile on the first charge. After that he does NOT show up in my assess again until the next critter.

In a series of 4 trolls, Max showed at melee in the first and the fourth trolls (first charge). The second and third troll he only showed in assess as at missile range (first charge). After the first assess, he fails to show up in assess during the fight until the critter is dead and we move on to the next critter.

It doesn't seem to affect his fighting ability at all, as you said. Very interesting! Well, at least it's better than before - he at least shows up in assess, whereas horse combat was completely broken for awhile, so I'm happy. It will be marvelous if the powers that be really fix the companion system some day.

Here's a log, but it's all four trolls, so you may want to skip it:

FIRST TROLL:

Moving fluidly, a gold-colored horse charges at a swamp troll. A swamp troll counters some of the body with a pike staff. The body lands a solid hit to its left leg!
