Wow! Thanks, WHITEC76, I didn't know that! I had always tried "signal horse to retreat" while mounted and it said since I was mounted, just retreat. I had never tried it while unmounted, so now since your suggestion, I tried it, and Voila! It works! Max disengaged. Thanks much. I love learning new things.
