I have noticed that the greater my encumbrance, the quicker I lock my armor skills.... Wonder why this is.

One of the number-crunchers will have to confirm- but I suspect because with greater hindrance, you have less effective evasion. So your armor is taking up the slack in your defenses.

Higher encumbrance = less evasion = more of the attack being absorbed by parry/shield = more armor experience.

For whatever reason, parrying and blocking teach far more armor than evading.

This is one of those things I hope gets changed in the new combat model. Armor skill reflects a character's ability to maneuver in their armor, making it easier to evade. Failing to evade teaching better is entirely counterintuitive.

Just as a side note, you can use this to your advantage to speed up training armors/defenses by stancing down your evasion, and not using SR.

Also, manually stancing down your evasion is probably a safer method than carrying a burden.

Also allows you to train lower armors while your weapons|evasion is catching up.
