* Driving in like an unbeatable force, a pale grey death spirit claws at you. You barely block with an emblazoned tower shield. The claw lands a good strike that rips skin and exposes bloody cartilage under the left kneecap.
[You're battered, off balance with opponent in very strong position.]
* Driving in like an adept combatant, a pale grey death spirit claws at you. You partially block with an emblazoned tower shield. The claw lands a light hit to your chest.

* With the speed and temerity of a swooping falcon, a pale grey death spirit claws at you. You fail to dodge, leaning wrong and blundering into the blow. The claw lands a heavy strike that slices through the neck and sends your head flying through the air.

The grey death spirit wails with joy!
Your bastard sword and tower shield fall to the ground.

Your death cry echoes in your brain as it quickly dawns on you that you have just died! Already, you feel the tug of eternity upon your spirit and you struggle to remain tied to this world.

Battered to dead? Come on. I don't even have low stamina. Talk about a shattered ego.

PGDS are notorious for hits that come from outer space as well. I only use them for weapons because I got tired of block block block block block block block block block block block stun.

Stamina is not the only check to determine if you remain alive in combat. You can get pummelled to death (death via stamina loss) or you can lose an entire critical body part. I'd recommend training with a nautilus neck machine to help with your decapitation issue.

In other words, any time your chest, neck, head, back, or abdomen fails to exist in conjunction with your character you should expect to depart soon thereafter.

only time you can loose a head a live is in a spar
and even that only depends on an empath being "johny on the spot" with their healing ways

Why is it when I read this I think of a PGDS singing "I Will Survive"?

You know, I remember the first time I killed a PGDS.

At first I was afraid. I was petrified.
I kept thinking how could I live with this thing eating at my side?
