Does being vain and superficial enough to want to appear to be the Human equivalent of 20 years, forever, count as a viable reason to study Necromancy?

I think so. You might want to read up on Elizabeth Bathory (or at least the legend of her) for an idea how how that could go.

On further reflection, there are all the mutations that a necromancer puts themselves through. So possibly within DR lore you're better off being a shifting empath.

Though while necromancy may not improve your looks (much like bathing in the blood of virgins won't) nothing says you can't be so bad crap insane that you can't convince yourself that you can.

This is what is written in AGE INFO 4:

Necromancy provides powerful alternatives, unbound by this restriction. Necromantic life extension can keep someone alive for centuries and is the classic choice for magicians who decide to meet the Immortals on their own terms. However, even necromancy can only push a body so far before death is unavoidable. True agelessness is reserved for liches: powerful Necromancers who turn their talents inward and become self-animating undead. Some Necromancers speak of Transcendence, a living immortality stolen from the gods, but no one has come forward to prove that it exists.

Notivation? Indeed. You can bet your life.

Necromancy provides the only source of reliable and potent life extension on Elanthia.
