It would be nice if there was a way to rechoose our Sects somehow. I realize that they were originally meant as a permanent choice, but there are a couple of reasons why letting a Moon Mage reconsider their Sect choice is a good thing. Choices in game development can change the original mechanic reasons why we choose our sects.
For example, about 4-5(ish) years ago, with the release of 3.0, my sect-specific divination tool was broken. To this date, they are still "not updated to 3.0" and browsing the forums I've read that updating them to 3.0 is low on the priority list. If I had known a system update would break my sect-specific tool, effectively indefinitely, and the only way to be on par with the other sects was to spend spell slots, I would have chosen another sect. The affinity is non-trivial, and is significant enough to be considered a benefit to a spell.
New developmental releases can also change the meaning of sect choices significantly. In the past, members of the Crystal Hand saw this. For my specific sect, G'nar Pethians, my specific affinity to Piercing Gaze has lost its value. My original line of thought was that observation and learning Astrology was a core component of advancing as a Moon Mage. And the quality of life that comes with the duration of Piercing Gaze was useful. Now with the release of RTR (Which is a great spell btw, I love it! Thanks for your hard work on it), my preferred playstyle has gone from observing a little bit nearly all the time, to buffing up and filling my pools with RTR. I would much rather have something such as Shadows or Seers sense affinity (even with Tokka cards being broken with my Bowls).
The way we prefer to RP our characters, and our own preferences can also change as well. Over a decade ago, a younger me thought gouging out eyes and walking around with empty eye sockets and a blindfold was edgy and cool. Now I feel it is lame, and the RP aspect of it no longer appeals to me. In short.. I loathe the RP associated with my sect.
DR characters are not like normal MMO characters. They last decades, and things change. The fewer things that are permanent the better. The game has done away with things like walking the Starry Road.
Sects should be a serious choice, and if you want to discourage people from swapping sects on a whim, you can always put a long cooldown on it. Maybe 2 years at a minimum. But some kind of way to redo it would be nice. Whether it is some quest that fits in the RP of the character, or just a simple GM assist session that clears the sect affiliation on the character.. as the Moon Mage population is small enough to justify not updating sect-specific divination tools from five years ago. A courtesy bandaid.

You said it much more tactfully than I how I have been thinking about it.
Agree 100% with everything you said, thank you so much for posting.

Yes please, I've got at least 2 if not 3 characters that due to spell/sect affiliation it would be better to be able to rechoose. Changes have happened to flesh out the sects with the spell preferences that were not there in the beginning.
Thank you
Thank you

I'm fairly certain they said at the beginning of sects not to choose based on spells.

The sects didnt have a fleshed out "ohh the gypsies have a favored bonus for using oohhbbiiejubbie spell" as I recall in the beginning.
Regardless, as I remember it spells werent even involved in the beginning, regardless of what elanthipedia (a player built wiki) says.
Granted, my memory could be bad & I didnt choose based on spells but I'd still like a chance to resect at least 1 of my loonie moonies.

I recall the same thing. Also...given the length of time we play our characters, tastes change over time. Maybe how I envisioned my character as a 15 year old is different from how I do as a 35 year old. I hope it is at least.
