TEST - Braun's Conjecture and Teleport Changes 02/28/2016 11:59 AM CST
I've just placed the new spell Braun's Conjecture on preview on the TEST server. You might ask why it's taking a pit stop there instead of going directly to preview in a live instance and the answer is because it's coming with a small handful of changes to the teleportation spells that I'd really like players to play with before they go live.

Braun's Conjecture:
2 slot advanced utility ritual

Braun's Conjecture is a ritual that adjusts the balance of the caster's conscious mind and their innate planar link. In such a state the caster is able to comprehend and calculate the extremely sophisticated formulae of Enlightened Geometry nearly instantaneously. These calculations are most useful when applied to the advanced forms of divination, though they can also be applied to teleportation. Oddly, this innate understanding does not extend to conventional mathematics.

Essentially this makes teleportation spells (Teleport, Moon Gate, Contingency and Riftal Summons) easier to cast, reduces the difficulty of using ALIGN Transmogrify and Split, reduces the RT of Predict State and removes the penalty for targetting specific skills with predictions.

This is kind of an oddball kitchen sink spell (A little bit of a throwback to Magic 2.1 spell design) so I'm really curious how people feel about it and if it's something you'd consider adding to your spellbooks. Much like Read the Ripples it isn't particularly a fan of Teleologic Sorcery. (Worry not Sorcerers, love for you guys is coming too.)

Teleport:
Reduced to a basic spell.
Now uses similar logic to Moongate to handle distance calculations, meaning you need to invest mana instead of raw ranks of PM to overcome greater distances.
You will also take a penalty when crossing the oceans just like Moongate.

Moongate:
No changes aside from support for Braun's Conjecture.

Riftal Summons:
Same distance changes as Teleport.

Contingency:
Same distance changes as Teleport (Note: Previously the distance checks for this spell didn't work at all so this is going to be a fairly major change for some of you, particularly people who use INVOKE CONTINGENCY regularly.)
Now uses Utility ranks instead of PM ranks when calculating the odds of automatically triggering.
Please note that Braun's Conjecture is checked when you establish the Contingency spell not when it's triggered.

There's a lots of fiddy bits here and there in these changes and it hasn't been through a proper QC (I wanted to start collecting feedback as soon as possible so I can adjust if needed before it ever hits live instances). Please keep this in mind and don't freak out if the changes seem extreme until I can take a good look at what's going on, there's a very real chance of something being wonky.

My thanks, as always, to those of you who help us out on the test server.

-Raesh

Braun's Conjecture, Destiny Cipher and Teleport Changes 03/07/2016 09:25 PM CST
Two new spells are now on PREMIUM preview:

Braun's Conjecture:
2 slot advanced utility ritual

Braun's Conjecture is a ritual that adjusts the balance of the caster's conscious mind and their innate planar link. In such a state the caster is able to comprehend and calculate the extremely sophisticated formulae of Enlightened Geometry nearly instantaneously. These calculations are most useful when applied to the advanced forms of divination, though they can also be applied to teleportation. Oddly, this innate understanding does not extend to conventional mathematics.

Essentially this makes teleportation spells (Teleport, Moon Gate, Contingency and Riftal Summons) easier to cast, reduces the difficulty of using ALIGN Transmogrify and Split, reduces the RT of Predict State and removes the penalty for targeting specific skills with predictions.

Destiny Cipher:
2 slot basic utility ritual

Destiny Cipher is one of the more exciting results to arise from the Heritage House's meticulous research. In essence, it is a Sophister meditation technique that has been blended with strands of philosophy from Fortune's Path and grounded in the planar theory first outlined by the Celestial Compact. Unlike other spells that enhance a mage's prophetic talents, Destiny Cipher seeks to clarify the meaning of a prophecy. Many find it useful when working with unfamiliar divination tools or techniques, allowing for a rapid increase in familiarity.

This causes you to treat all tools equally (removing sect preference), increases the potency of your visions and increases the bonding rate.

Much like Read the Ripples, both of these spells aren't fans of Teleologic Sorcery. (Worry not Sorcerers, love for you guys is coming too.)

Ritual foci are available for both at the Crossing Artificer.

Coming along for the ride with these two spells are the previously discussed changes to teleport spells:

Will generally act much more like teleport when you're still alive.

Thanks go to all the players who helped out with this on Test and both Naohhi and Grejuva for their swift QCs.

Both Braun's Conjecture and Destiny Cipher have been removed from premium preview.

If you wish to continue using them you'll need to learn them from a Guildleader like usual.

And what I meant to say was... Destiny Cipher and Braun's Conjecture are on general preview.

After the general preview ends in a few days you'll need to learn them from the Guildleader like usual.

Sorry about the confusion there.

Now Braun's Conjecture and Destiny Cipher are off general preview. If you wish to continue using them you'll need to spend the spell slots and learn them from a Guildleader like usual.
